I've already posted this in spooky, where I usually hang out, but figure this is of equal or more interest to this crowd, and I'm not sure how much crossover there is.
I find the following poem works better for me than the supplied verse because adults seem to enjoy it more and the kids still get it. It's also shorter and for me, an easier meter to maintain. If you are familiar with the prop, a skeleton in the closet type effect, you'll see where the actions fit the patter. If this works for anyone, feel free to use it, but I retain any rights to publication. Mismade Monster Twas a dark and stormy night, and all through the tower you could smell the mad doctor, he needed a shower! The reason for that odor strong were hours in the lab so long. Said he, “I’ll make this monster shine, or my name isn't Frankenstein!” He used the freshest body parts. the swiftest feet, the bravest heart, But when it came to pick the head, he chose a victim not quite dead! For though on top he put the brain for reasons he could not explain the head, it seemed, would not remain and went beneath the feet. Insane! The doctor swallowed hard his terror, and set about to fix his error. Again, he put the feet in first, and with his heart about to burst, he told himself it could be worse. Again on top there went the head, but to the doc’s eternal dread, it went below the feet, instead. And so it was he saw too late the fool he’d been to have tempted fate! So he took head, undead, and wrapped it up tight, and he threw it away on that dark stormy night. But alas and alack, he’d reap what he’d sown, the monster, it seemed, had a mind of his own! marc |

I love my Mismade Monster. I even use it year round for the right age groups.

Played broadly and with humor, I find the poem gets a good response from adults in a mixed crowd, so I agree, can be done any time of the year.

WOW! Thank you so much! I'm the guy that makes these and your poem is WONDERFUL. I think I have ONE left in stock (1/12/22) and I won't be making them for a long while for a variety of reasons. I thought I had a few more, but looking around the workshop.. I think the one is the last of them.
