Hey everyone. I have been a life long fan of magic. I am 30 years old and some of my earliest memories are visiting a magic shop. It still exists actually, Mr G's in florida, although I have not been in 4-5 years.
I enjoy most genres of magic, I particularly enjoy watching comedy magic, but most of what I perform(stretch) is sleight of hand with coins and cards. I've recently become very passionate for building things, so parlor 'box' type magic has become a much bigger interest than it was in the past. I mentioned that I enjoy building things, but that is only part of it, I also love designing and inventing things, so I hope I can contribute in the future, particularly in the [workshop] section of the forum! About a year ago I discovered a love for automata, what a surprise it was to see one of the best automata makers of all time was also a magician! And even built automata based magic! Anyway, I look forward to learning a lot and hope to contribute as much as I can! |

Welcome Scotte,
This forum will probably broaden your interests even more. Are you talking about Robert Houdin being a builder of automata or maybe Georges Melies? -Mary Mowder |

Welcome, Scott! I was thinking Houdin as well. It is definitely an interesting facet of the magic world, and I would love to check out some of Houdin's masterpieces. We'd love to see what you cook up as well, so please keep us in mind as you tinker and toy!

Thanks for the welcome. I was talking about Houdin, that guy was really incredible, one of those people who were just way ahead of the times. I will eventually post the few automata I have made, but none have to do with magic so far. Once I finish a couple of the magic props I am working on I will post those and the automata, probably in the workshop section!
I don't recall the name Georges Melies, but I'm definitely going to look him up now! |

Welcome Scotte,
I look forward to seeing you in the workshop. I find it the most interesting section on the Café, that's probably because I build magic as a profession. Houdin is my favorite all time magician and have built many versions of his light heavy chest. Look forward to seeing some of your work. Gimpy
