And now this sad note from Stephen Minch:

Dear Friends,

I am writing with some unhappy news. Barrie Richardson is quite ill. I think everyone who has met Barrie considers him a friend—he is just that kind of a person—and most of you who have enjoyed his books feel a similar bond of warmth. There is no gentle way of putting this: Barrie will not be with us long. If you would like to send him a note to let him know how he and/or his work have affected you, or just to wish him well, please send it to me and I will forward it to him. (If you have received a similar note from Martin Joyal, you needn't reply to both of us.)

Best Wishes,
Stephen Minch

Barrie is a class act, and always will be... a gentle, kind hearted man and always willing to listen and talk...i met him once, spent a big chunk of the day with him, even carried his bags to the station - just a genuine, lovely human being... whatever happens, that will never change...

So sad to hear.

Barrie is my favourite thinker in mentalism.

I always hoped there would be more from him after his last book.

But alas it really does seem to be his curtain call.

What a wonderful thinker. Ingenious, creative and devilish. What else could you ask for in a mentalist?

Here is hoping he has one more trick up his sleeve...

Barrie is a warm gentle and kind soul who spent some time with me at Tabula Mentis in Huddersfield. I gave my 4.8min lecture and he did his best of TOTM lecture. His Quartet struck such a chord with me, it's now a staple of my act.

I got an email about this a few minutes ago. Sad news indeed. He has given some wonderful contributions to the art over the years. He is one of the old school performers who knew how to put on an entertaining show, with some very clever thinking.
We've gotta enjoy ourselves while we're here.

So sad. He truly was devoted to our art and has always been more than willing to share and assist others in their quest. A great thinker, a gentle soul and an all around great guy who somehow touched everyone he came in contact with.

I will add my humble comments to the loud chorus of kind regards for Barrie. I had the pleasure of meeting him once and he was kind indeed. I am sure much of it had to do with the goodwill directed to my good friend, Charles Pecor. Regardless, he is a kind and generous soul. My best regards to Barrie. I am grateful for his kindness.

Best regards,

So sad to hear.

While I never met Barrie Richardson due to the geographical distance, his work truly inspired my thinking, and I believe loads of people will agree. Plus he seems to be one of the nicest down to Earth people.

In fact, a "subtlety" in his work allowed me to create one of the staple effects in my act. I can't be thankful enough.

If this message reaches him, I hope he's glad that he has inspired many performers who share the same passion towards the art.

Sent Stephen Minch an email to pass along, and he already did so.

At the IBM/SAM Combined Convention in Louisville, Ky., back in 2008, Barrie was walking around the hotel lobby and introduced himself. He invited me to join him for breakfast, and I had a wonderful time sharing with him. A thoughtful, caring and generous man.

Barrie is so nice I have no words. I worked with him many years ago and started calling him the Mr. Rogers of Mentalism. I hate hearing this.

I never had the fortune to meet Barrie Richardson in person, but I loved his writings and I use one of his effects all the time.

It is my understanding that Barrie died this morning, surrounded by family and friends.

His legacy is an incredible one; he will be sorely missed!
