Great job. That was really good. I have never thought of using the spectators hand for this effect. You got me thinking about my own coin's routines now. I like how you think outside the box.

If you have both, they could deduce you are going to do a switch. So bring out and show a silver coin, put "it" in their hand (really the copper coin, obviously). Then bring out a copper coin from your pocket. Tap the coin on their hand, show the coins have changed places. Only displaying one coin at the start helps rule out the idea of a switch in the spectator's mind. |

So much going on in this effect beyond the palming method
now an interesting psychological choice between a having a spectator select a coin for two "handled" ones, and having only one coin at a time in play.

Using the spectator's hand for transposition is waaay old.
This is a handling of an old effect. Not criticizing anything, but merely pointing out the effect itself, even with the choice is nothing new. |

Most things in magic are old. No one is attempting to say anything groundbreaking is being shown here. He is merely showcasing a particular handling of an effect.

I feel there is more going on here than just the domonstration of a palming position.
before becoming acquainted with Crimp Techniques I used three efferent methods of having an object change its nature in a spectator's hand. Now I have four. Each has its advantages and drawbacks. The choice is based on audience, setting and routine considerations of what came before and what will follow. What does the audience remember? Do they say, "This guy did that old copped silver thing with a new twist?" Nope! They say things like, "I could feel it grow warmer as the coin changed from lead to gold." "I was suspicious and made sure I actually held the copper coin. You might have been surprised, I was dumbfounded!" "So, that is what real magic looks like!" ..... Such comment do not occur because you do an "old effect" better, of because you do a one-hand switch rather than a Utility Switch. These are just tools or an instrument on which to play. Instead, you create an expectation that magic is about to occur. introduce the players of the skit, create anticipation, blend it a bit of drama -- then comes the astonishment and memory of "must be magic." Can a change of palming position and techniques for applying it in combination with other sleights make a big difference? to paraphrase Henry Ford, "If you think it will or you think it won't -- you are probably right."
