Nicholas Lawrence Presents EVOLVE EVOLVE is a brand new visual morphing concept that can be applied to any small object including cards, receipts and bills. The object can be unfolded and handed straight out! EFFECT: A folded card can be dropped from hand to hand (as on the front cover) and as it drops the colour visually morphs from red to blue. It can then be handed straight out for examination. This effect can also be used with bills, receipts, cards and many more similar styled objects. EVOLVE has many startling applications including changing an object as they are slid across a table or with a simple snap of the fingers! Once again it can be unfolded and handed straight out for examination! Your object can be set ready to go. No need to hold onto it like in inferrer methods. No elastic thread to break. Visually stunning! Did we mention that it can be handed straight out for examination? - - - - - - - - - - This looks really good... we have seen stuff like this before, but the last few lines of the ad copy sound very promising and set this apart. No need to hold onto it before the change, No elastic thread to break, and instantly examinable? Sounds almost too good to be true. |

Looks really cool but £25 for a trick/colour change that lasts a second!? that's quite a lot ( well for me anyway, I'm 14 ). Considering Nicholas Lawrence is sooo creative they should put more than one trick on a DVD. Or just make it a tad cheaper like a tenner or something, but I guess the amount of time he spent on it might make it fair. Just my thoughts on the price, other than that it looks like a really cool trick and I think the bill to card looks pretty cool and would work well with the "I bet I can find your card" presentation and then when you can't as you pass them the money it changes to their card

Is this a pre-order?
website has conflicting information. Avail Dec 13 but "ships in 24-72 hours" . |

Looks fantastic as with most of Lawrence's illusions but $37 seems really high for a ten second trick. I know there's time and knowledge involved and that's worth a lot, but no way I'm dropping almost $49 for this. It seems business wise $20 would be more sustainable and get many more purchases to me.

I think so too. It looks good, but a bit expensive.

Now THIS has my attention, kudos to Nicholas (once again) who is proving to be a incredible creator time and time again.
Regarding price - praising the effect then complaining about price is silly, and shows a lack of respect for the creator. It will not change anything and it is the right of the creator and the producers to price their items as they see fit. If you have not created and released any effects yourself you have no hope to understand the mountainous costs associated with this process. Although I don't know this for sure it appears that an effect like this could be worth thousands to a working performer. If you like the item and feel it would fit in your repertoire, you simply need to pay up.

Actually that's patently ridiculous. If no one gives their opinion about things such as pricing then creators have no idea what their buying audience thinks. I haven't released tricks because I'm not a professional magician but I've released products in other industries and know the correct target pricing is about the most important element to releasing the product. The huge majority of purchasers of effects aren't professionals and it won't be worth anything other than a bit of fun for them. This has zilch to do with respecting the creator. Having followed Lawrence's career for quite some time he was at one point asking for donations because he wasn't making enough money from his products. If that's the case, then the ticket items sold is priced too high. The idea behind releasing product is to move it, not sell it to a handful of pros. By the small sample pool here, the company has priced it too high. And it's a download so there is no manufacturing costs to consider, there just aren't mountainous costs involved. What really happens when things aren't priced correctly is that consumers go elsewhere and the creators get nothing.

Used to be a fan of Nicholas. Been following his work for a while. Now everything cool about his magic is gone. Hope he can resolve things with sans mind and get back soon.

Yes and this is precisely why some creators including myself deliberately price out the merely curious. Not everyone's goal is to sell up a storm and if it was they would quickly tire of the magic market. Quote:
This has zilch to do with respecting the creator. Saying that you like what the creator has produced BUT are not prepared to pay them the asking price for their hard work in developing an effect/routine/whatever is telling them you don't value their work. Try telling your mechanic/plumber/doctor/etc you are pleased with the job they do BUT you think they are only worth half their standard labor rate and that is all you are prepared to pay - see how you go. Having followed Lawrence's career for quite some time he was at one point asking for donations because he wasn't making enough money from his products. The sign of a guy who does it because he LOVES the art. Talent will get you some of the way some of the time but only sheer determination, persistence and sacrifice will get you all of the way every time. I admire people who are dedicated to their art and don't just sell out. Quote:
If that's the case, then the ticket items sold is priced too high. The idea behind releasing product is to move it, not sell it to a handful of pros. Really, have you asked Nicholas if mega-sales are his highest priority? Again I believe he shows the hallmarks of a guy who just loves magic and oozes creativity and wants to share and be recognised for his quality magic. Maybe he doesn't want to sell out el-cheapo and have 1,000 badly performed you tube clips of his effects plus a handful of exposures. I don't know, best ask Nicholas and the WMS guys. Quote:

What really happens when things aren't priced correctly is that consumers go elsewhere and the creators get nothing. Actually what really happens is that the merely curious will go elsewhere looking for el-cheapo magic and the purchasers will be much happier that their audience is not going to say "Oh I saw a kid do that on you tube and they showed how it works...blah blah blah". Slackerking, I agree that finding the right price point is important but Nicholas will get all the feedback he needs from the sales or lack thereof. I have no objection to people voting with their wallets as of COURSE that is how a market place works. What Nicolas does not need is to be told in a forum that his item is 'too expensive' by people who don't even own it. I am just tired of seeing this attitude here that people see fit to immediately and bluntly unleash their 'great pricing wisdom' on someone else's intellectual property when they know next to nothing about it.

Looks exactly like Changeling by Marc Levelle and Titanas. Except it changes from a bill to card instead of bill to bill.
Wow Al Straker, that's a very detail analysis with passion! I do agree with a few points though. No magic should come cheap. It's the secret we are buying, not the material that comes with it. The market will however decide whether if an item is worth its asking price. This one looks just ok though. |

Changeling cant be handed out for examination, it says this can (assuming after you ditch off the gimmick as you unfold the card or bill)

Just made this up and have to say...that I love it. It's *** clever, super easy to clean up and very very practical. I wouldn't use it for card to card though, I'd probably use it as a bill change. Great stuff, I'll actually buy it now (Nicholas is a friend but this is unbiased, and he confirmed the method to me). I really like it

Can this be used for a switch, or is it simply a visual morph?

ReviewerMaster Veteran user 307 Posts |
Nonprofitmagic, it's a visual morph and does require a switch before the trick starts, and likely a clean up again after the visual moment. I made my Changeling detachable with m*gn**. The process should be pretty much the same.
