I do not want to disturb, but I have to admit that I am simply not willing to vote. Each year there are a bunch of things they could deserve this title, but at the same time there are too many things you can not compare with each other. And the more expensive a trick is the less people will vote for it as they didn't purchase it. How can you compare a well done and useful prop like the SvenPad with a complex system like the CUPP or Scan3D? E. g., I use all three, but do not compare. I think it might make sense to vote for a book of the year, more comparable, but tricks??
A different story might be the vote for the Thurston Award although inventors of "cheaper" tricks might get in first... I fully agree that Craig Filicetti got awarded more than one time. But there are two other guys right now who would deserve this award easily: Cesar Alonso and Eric Samuels... who invented several unbelievable "systems" which are (thanks God) not for the masses. Jan

Rubbish! If that's the case we may as well pack up and go home now. Why not join in the fun rather than ruin the party for everyone else?

Jan brings up as usual good food for thought.
At this stage it seems like a nearly $400 product (Scan3D) is vying for top position and deservedly so. That actually disproves the notion that only less expensive products have a shot to win. SCAN3d is not a mass market product (and I agree with the thanks god statement) and I would also hazard to guess that those like me who own such nice things might not necessarily want a huge spotlight on such a beautiful secret. Cesar and Eric's items may in fact deserve heaps of praise but (because of the justifiably high price) have a more limited audience and less potential votes. So these yearly beauty contests - like any contest - is imperfect. But every year I look forward to reading through the thread as for me it is quite useful in pointing me towards many cool items that I was unaware of and may have missed. As I recall one of last year's winners (Inferno by my friend Bobbby Hasbun) was a book. Contests are imperfect - but they can still be useful and fun. I always look forward to Jamie's yearly party.

You assume - and I assume that your observation is wrong as your observation is a mere and unfounded guesswork . Jan
