I bought a few books this year, mainly in Dutch, so no point in voting for them. But Tenyoism is the best magic book I ever bought, so there you go, another vote for Tenyoism by Richard Kaufman.

I must vote for Labyrinth, because it is quite good, and especially because it's the only 2015 book I bought.

It is now nearly February and people are still voting.......... am I missing something. When is the deadline and when will the winning book be announced?

Heya- It's still only January, but we're getting close!

Okay! 5 days to go! Let's get those votes in, and get those posts past 50! The way I do the count is that for the current leaderboard, I've counted everyone's vote, no matter what their post count.

On Feb.01, I'll go back through the thread and subtract anyone who doesn't have at least 50 posts and any doubles I find. It takes a while, but I've found it to be the best system. So, for example, The Black Project by Looch would actually have 42 votes and Blomberg Laboratories by Andi Gladwin would have 31 votes. This was done in an attempt to eliminate people from signing up just to vote for their pal- and to encourage people to take part in our awesome community that we're all a part of!

Current Leaderboard:

1) The Black Project by Looch (49 votes)
2) Blomberg Laboratories by Andi Gladwin (43 votes)
3) Destination Zero by John Bannon (17 votes)

According to your count, Destination is actually tied for third with Bammo (17 ea) (I also saw another vote for destination after this update but what was the reason for the tie not making the leaderboard at the time of posting it? Just wondering if it was due to votes by people with less than 50 posts or just that one got to 17 before the other? OR, is it that first place votes count more than second place votes etc?

Thanks for making this such a great thread, everyone! There's only a few hours left to vote (Feb.01 was decided as the deadline in order to give people time to consider works that were released at the end of December) so we're almost there!

I'll announce the winner at noon (Pacific time) tomorrow! Good luck and remember that even if you only got a single vote, someone thinks that your work is the best they've seen all year. It's an honor, so feel great about it!

P.S. Thanks for the heads up, Poof-Daddy! Tomorrow will have the final count updated, checked, and rechecked to make sure the list is perfecto!

The votes are in! The “less than 50s” have been subtracted (as have any doubles) and I’d like to welcome the new members who have joined in and become welcome additions to our awesome community!

“Thanks!” to everyone who has joined in and congratulations to anyone who received even a single vote! Your work has changed someone’s life!

The Black Project by Looch - the official winner of the 2015 TARBELL AWARD

Harlan Eugene Tarbell’s “Tarbell Course in Magic” is where a lot of magicians began their amazing journey into a world of wonder, amazement, and magic. His words on those pages not only taught and instructed, but they also inspired. They took our imaginations and sent them to places we never dreamed possible. With this in mind, we celebrate the written word and the books they are found in. Our love for books and the depths that they can explore will always bring us joy, happiness, and wonder. Thanks to every single author who has taken the time and the energy to complete such an important task. Your work has changed someone’s life.

That's great news, Thanks Jamie, and thank you to all who voted. A remarkable score if you take into consideration The Black Project was limited to 400 copies. I am proud that so many people to like it.

Hi Friends,

This thread has left me confused about the true meaning of 'best'. Democracy is good but it does not always give out the best. Do not get me wrong. I have utmost respect for the winning books and authors.

But, obviously, this process will only give out the 'best marketed' or 'best promoted' or 'top selling' books. Because, I am sure, all those who voted have not purchased and read ALL the books that were in 'competition' here. So they are voting for the 1/2/3 books they got their hands on. Consequently, the better selling books, volumes wise, will have a chance of polling more votes.

Another way to look at it is, for example, more people in this thread DID NOT vote for the winning book.

Yet another way to look at it is, for example, even out of the 400 Black Projects sold, only 33 voted for it here - less than 10%.

Personally, I love Looch material. I have his Penguin 2 lecture and some other stuff of his. Excellent output. Maybe Black Project deserves to be the best. Unfortunately I could not get Black Project due to $$$. But surely, it is not a case of sour grapes.

All I am saying is the process can be a better one. One solution can be to give only 50% weightage to the voting and the other 50% based on maybe an expert panel reviewing all the competing books. The 'well marketed' books will anyway get 'eyeballs'. It is the good quality, low profile books that need to get 'eyeballs' of those with limited $$$ like me.

Advance apologies, if unwittingly, I have sounded 'not right' in anyway to anyone. My hearty best wishes and thanks to all the books and their authors.
There is no better freedom than choice and no better choice than freedom.

I reckon getting mates to vote spoils the competition, then its not about the book but who has got most mates

Just seen Karls reply above... Who got their mates to vote Karl? I certainly didn't. I asked owners of TBP if they felt it deserved their vote then please do.
