As I was pulling into the parking lot at the Ocean Dunes I received a text from the wife that a package had arrived from Prof BC. A sign from the spirits.....

Honestly...the Triptych spooks me.
I shall refrain from touching it...I'll let others make that mistake. |

Dear all:
I have received a message indicating that the wooden box did not make the journey well. Despite my every attempt to shore them up with brass corners, they appear yet to be too fragile to survive the trip while carrying the heavy Triptych. If you find the box you receive has been damaged, please PM me and I will ship you a replacement box as soon as I get back from ECSSII and have a chance to run another one up. Sorry for any inconvenience. All future shipments will be modified to better protect the box. Many thanks, BC

I have received a heavy box from said professor. I shall open and review this weekend when proper and respectable time has been allotted for such a special event.
In the meantime, nothing to see here...move along.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Being at ECSS, I have not yet received word of a package arriving to my home. I plan to make that call tomorrow "after" attending Professor BC's lecture. Hope I get good news, from home as I know the lesson plan from Proff BC will be great!

Triptych safely arrived in Switzerland today - that was quick. It simply looks stunning, well done! Can't imagine the amount of work that must have gone into this. Oh, and it's a heavy, solid beast of a prop indeed.
(Regarding the packing, the box had indeed come apart at one end, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a bit of careful squeezing. Certainly no need for a replacement box. I would however suggest wrapping the three pieces individually to prevent them from rubbing too much against each other during their journey.) |

I collected mine from the post office yesterday but haven't had time ( or indeed the inclination, strangely) to unpack it. It is Sunday after all.

This is an absolutely beautiful prop! I love it! It doesn't absolutely have to tie in to the story either--this could be from any old church or similar building. What a treasure this is for the bizarre performer! Some of us few are extremely fortunate to possess it (except for the nightmares, shadows in the periphery, and growing paranoia...)

As promised, I am posting to report that I have (as of ten minutes ago) heard from the box manufacturer. As I wrote in the email sent out to all Triptych owners, I have reordered the boxes--hopefully made of stronger stuff--and offered to pay extra (indeed considerably extra) if they could be done in a lovely cherry wood. This I offered ten days ago and again eight days ago without word from the box maker. I wrote again this morning offering again to pay for improved materials and to send back the unused portion of the flimsy boxes that he sent originally. I can only copy and paste the box maker's answer as it is a study in terse petulance. He writes:
'New boxes are already in route to you. We only work in birch wood here. Please send unused boxes back at your earliest convenience. Thank you, Neil' CLOVERWOOD.COM / BRAGLEY MFG. Soooo, I await delivery. I have no earthly idea if this new purchase will provide us with the lovely presentation/display box that I originally envisioned or if we are to be fobbed off yet again with substandard pieces. I do know that, as they are going to be stain-thristy birch again that I will need time to sand, finish, and stain these pieces before a) sending them out to current owners in order to replace the flimsy nightmares they currently have (apologies again) and b) making up enough more to support the second wave of Triptych. I will post again as soon as the boxes arrive to report (fingers crossed) the condition/suitability of this next group of boxes. Heigh-ho, BC

Well, his behavior is certainly a bit of a shame. I'm no expert, but checking his website, many of those boxes look pretty good. If he does send a sturdier variety, they'll probably be quite suitable! I want to thank you, Professor, for putting in the time and expense on our behalf to correct the display box issue.
However--the boxes were only a bonus to hold the real prize, which is Triptych itself! This haunted statue with its built-in effects is just breathtaking... |

Just a heads up, Wave 2 (no guarantee of another) has opened up with 10 pieces available, according to Lebanon's newsletter...

Has anybody worked a routine with this prop ?
Would you say it's good for eight - table top ? |
|||||||||
PROF BC Inner circle 1445 Posts |
Table top, yes. Table hopping, no. Eight would be a comfortable number also. If you would like to PM me what you have in mind (or post it here), I would be happy to let you know if Triptych would be appropriate. It *is* a large piece (nearly 13 inches tall) with the heft of an actual piece of carved wood (almost 10 pounds). While it is fine for a certain type of close-up (a dinner party gathered at a table, for example), I would not recommend it for a movable performance presentation wherein the performer works all evening going from one area/table to another; it was created to be a story-focus prop that manifests a number of effects (as many or as few as the performer desires) and would be quite comfortable in a sit-down, parlour, or stage presentation.
Best, BC

Any update on the boxes, Professor? My Triptych arrived fine, but the box was in pieces.

PROF BC Inner circle 1445 Posts |
Yes. I have received the replacements (not cherry wood, sadly--thicker on the sides, top, and bottom, and therefore marginally stronger but otherwise the same as the first boxes). As soon as I have a break from academic activities (which are heavy in this important Renaissance Studies year--400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death as well as Jonson's first folio not to mention the launch of my 27-years-in-the-making Renaissance Drama database), I will be staining and preparing the boxes and mailing them out. I do not yet have an estimate for when this will occur as I would not want to promise a date that I could not fulfill. My original plan was to have Triptych completely off my work bench for the start of term, but the box manufacturer has made that more of a nightmare than a plan.
The boxes were intended as a special bonus, not part of the trick at all, but the surprise was all on my part, I fear. As soon as I can. BC
