Thanks SamChack,
that Out of Sight was really clean... I learned that from a different source, and his handling just got me interested on it again, really, really clean. Thanks!! Regarding the 21, there is a great one by Dani DaOrtiz... of course, the presentation is his and only his, I can not do it the same way, but the important part is the structure, you can play with this in may other ways https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9_q_OoXel0 (the audio is in Spanish, but you don't need to hear it, it can be enjoyed by just looking ) |

Michael Ammar has a very nice variation on the 21 card trick, that is actually presented as a variation since many people already know the 21 card trick. Its fun to do when someone does the original or starts talking about it, and then you do this variation.
As an aside I still get to occasionally do the 21 card trick for people who don't know it, and then I have this for the rest of the world |

What a great idea for presentation! And it gives a lot of motivation from the spectators pov for the constant laying out of piles... It still will not be a quick trick by any means but atleast now it might not seem so mathematical, and I really like the tag line
You might think about little oneliners you can say depending on what features they say (like weird hair... Alright we're looking for Donald trump) just anything to get a chuckle to help pass the time... I'm sure you thought of similar stuff though already! Bests of luck, Ryan Lockwood
The more I learn, the less I seem to know.

John G. has a fun version of the classic "4 ace trick" that is deceptive enough to fool magicians! I forget the name of the effect, but you can find it in his book "Hands off my notes"

It's all mentalism, spanning a wide variety of plots. Some of it is straight mind reading, impossible coincidences, ACAAN and TOCATON routines, a very different OOTW, a Ten Card Poker Deal, a three-phase effect using ESP cards, a business card routine, and much more. There is also a "Utilities" chapter in which I teach some original moves, including some very deceptive false shuffles and cuts. The book is 355 pages, hardcover (with a beautiful dust jacket), 140 photographs, and the foreword is written by Max Maven.

Most of the routines are either self-working, or at least semi-automatic.

I had forgot about this thread. I still didn't had the opportunity to present my 21-card trick variation yet. Ben, your work sounds awesome. |

Hey guys!
I've came back to the 21-card-trick recently and I'm trying to work a new way to present it (I'm currently trying to polish my presentation and missdirection skills using that kind of effect). An idea I've came up with was to ask someone to think of a number before the trick even start, and then, after "failing" to find the selected card, finding the card using the number initially thought of. The method I'm thinking is the one where you ask for a number between 10 and 20. However, while it won't be a problem if the thought-of number is anything from 10-27, I have no clue what to do if the number is anything 1-9. Besides asking them to think of a two-digit numbers, is there any way I could improve the effect? |

Below is a presentation of the 21 card trick that I put together to highlight a point about presentation in my Presentation (A How-To Guide).
Magiconcio I know your focus seems to be on presentation lately so if you want to learn my thoughts on the subject here is my guide: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=41 Items required: Newspaper hat with police written across its front (you know, the ones you made as a kid) 1 pack of cards (naturally) Performance: Ladies and gentleman it’s becoming apparent more then ever that on the news and Current Affairs shows that bad news is good news. Very seldom do we hear a good news story these days. Watching the news lately or not you may have come to realize a serial card thief has been terrorizing the magic community by sneaking in thru windows during the middle of a performance and stealing cards from the magician’s deck leaving him with less then the required 52. It’s a shocking problem and one that I have come prepared for today. Could I ask you to be my watchful eye in case he comes? Yes? Great then put this hat on. But its not just any card this thief steals but a particular card. Now I don’t know what card it is as I have not been robbed yet by I figure if we can find out together then maybe we can remove it from the deck. Like a police line up I will deal these cards in three lines and you are to pick up one and think of the card you think is the thief’s preferred card. (The cards are then dealt in three rows of seven as traditionally required for this trick) To make double sure the card is the one the spectator suspects in the one. I’ll gather the cards up mister police man and put them in your pocket. Now this is where I need you to act your part by following my directions. Place your hand out and say “stop in the name of the LAW”. Do this a quick as possible (this is repeated a number of times in a fast and quick fashion until an instruction is given to reach into his pocket and pull out a card) Now what card was it that you chose? The Six of clubs? It looks like we apprehended the offending card. (In the hands of the spectator with the newspaper hat on his head is holding the selected card. Magically Aus |

Nice presentation, Aus! In this topic I've posted an idea about a similar approach of the "suspect" thing, where the suspect is actually a card and the dealing process is used to "sort" the suspects. I think it's more fit to work with kids (although I still didn't test it).
I've learned quickly to respect you, your ideas are always top-knotch! I'm currently reading your presentation post and it is very good. I like how you explain that routining is great to cover the weakness of effects, and I agree with that! Thanks! |
