Two cards are shown, one face up, one face down. You explain that you have one red and one black card. Take the black card and put it behind your back. Ask which one is behind your back. When they say the black card, you pull out the red. Can be repeated over and over. Cheap simple little effect but plays well.

I reckon that there are different versions. But basically you show two different cards, take one away, and bring back the other card of the pair.

Or you may be talking about the David Blaine verions in which you cards are shown (say two queens) and the spectator hold one well you the other. You demo how good you are at slight of hand by switching the card you hold with one held by the spectator. In the end tho you completly change the two from two queens to two kings.

Oh here we go again! Smile

As a point of clarity: it's not David Blaine's. Never was. Never will be.

The effect Aus is referring to is Eddie Fechters, "Be Honest What Is It."

Rob,

A lot of us do know "2 Card Monte" as Eddie Fechter's "Be Honest, What Is It?", but the fact is that most of the people that are trying to learn it have seen David Blaine perform it. The reason it is referred to as Blaine's is because he popularized it. Granted, that doesn't make it "his", but I'm quite sure that Aussie's comment was merely a slip of the tongue...or the fingers...or the keyboard...or...whatever.

Cheers,

THere is also Dr Daley's last trick, which is pretty much the "blaine" version except simpler.

Dr Daley's Last trick is slightly different in you openly acknowledge using 4 cards (2 red and 2 black) and place the black cards away from the red cards and cause them to switch places.

It doesn't read well but is a superb effect, very clear, direct and looks brutally fair. It is on Easy To Master Card Miracles, I think volume 2 but might be mistaken.

I prefer it to the 2 card monte. I don't like the 'where is it, what colour is it' presentation most people insist on using it seems too much like a test, also at least in the UK the effect has been overexposed by the Blaine tv special which also robs it of any surprise.
