I would like to make some custom pictures on silks. Which would be the best way? Markers? Paint? Paint with dye? Fairly new to magic. Mostly in local churches and my children's schools. Any advice would be appreciated.

Silk screening is the best way to run pictures on silk. Silk screening a silk, how about that. There are three methods of silk screening, stencil, rubber cement, and using cut out pieces of paper. If you know nothing about silk screen, then take an art class or do some searching. It is cheap to prepare, as the most expensive thing is the paint, everything else you can make.

There are a lot of YouTube videos on how to draw and dye with magic markers and fabric marker. Just do some searching, and you will find lots of tutorials. You can also search this section on dyeing silk, there are special dyes for silk given and where to buy them on line.

If you don't want to go through learning to be an artist and fabric dyer, then their are Magic Christian website that make and silks for gospel magic.

www.laflinmagicstore.com is one, and there are others in this Smooth as Silk forum.

If you are going to paint on silk, then you need to know about this place: http://www.dharmatrading.com/ Wiz Kid Qua-Fiki's "Fish or Cut Bait" e-Book shows the process of drawing and painting simple outline characters and messages on silks (The Wizards' Journal #20) and his "Mis-Made Jack" from The Wizards' Journal #21 shows how to make a more complete "work of art" on a silk, including dying the background. There are also tutorials on the subject at Dharma Trading Company.

Happy Painting!
