I recently saw a magician perform the airborne glass effect but in a way I'd never even thought of before. He started pouring soda from a soda can out into a glass cup but instead of letting go of the cup he let go of the soda pouring the liquid and it stayed there levitating as soda was poured out! Anyone ever heard of this or know where to learn it??

Fantasio has been doing a version of this for over 15 years. I've even seen one where he lets go of both items and both stay in the air. If you can ever find a clip, look for his alter ego Fun-tasio where he does weird versions of standard effects.

Here is one rendition of this spoof act he does. The effect we are talking about happens around 3:50
