I own a first edition of Ortiz' At the card table and Cardshark books. Can anyone give a quote of the value of these books? Thanks.

You can't afford to sell them.

But if you do, they will sell. My advice would be to keep them. You may regret selling them later and never get a second chance to own them (without winning the lottery). Smile

Yup! I regret selling my copy of At the Card Table. I'm hopeful that Ortiz will reprint them in the not so distant future.

As someone who has every one of his books, and most signed, I consider it sacrilegious to take about selling them. It is easy to see them occasionally for sale and they are never cheap. Unless you never plan on performing any of the effects, I cannot imagine selling. However, I know that there are many magicians out there that would love to get their hands on some of his books and you would have no issues getting them sold. I have seen the first editions go for more than $200 US, depends on the timing I guess and where you list them.

You would regret selling them and you'd have a difficult time tracking them down if you ever wanted to purchase them again.

Sounds about right, although I've seen it sell for up to $200.

Awesome Darwin! The only book not in my collection. At The Card Table is one of my not get rid of at any cost books. So many great memories devouring this book and I can not see myself ever parting with it. The other books on my list have got reprinted (at least a good number of them), and I perform to many of the routines from this book.

Darwin, any word on the release of Cardshark?

Darwin Ortiz cardmagic are very strong and wonderful, I have been doing routines from all his books for many years with success.
Ortiz effects are very fun to perform, you get very strong reactions when you do them...
I have fooled magicians with several of Ortiz routines.

A story from the summer 2007: I was performing only cardmagic at a restaurant in Pattaya, Thailand for some magicians and laymen.
I did Ortiz routines, after the show they (magicians) told me that they were fooled 100%. Fun.
The owner of the restaurant wanted me to come back and do more cardmagic shows after that.

Some of my favorite routines from Cardshark:

The Unholy Three
Blockbuster
Kartenkunste
Blind Aces
Museum Piece
The one-handed poker deal
The cross
The sting

I owe the book Cardshark, but, its not autographed. I may buy a new one with an autograph.

Thanks. But actually this is a rather small print run. And once it's sold out I have no plans to ever reprint Cardshark again. So to anyone who is serious about wanting a copy, this is your chance.

Sincerely,
Darwin Ortiz

PS: I want to thank everyone for all the kind comments. They're very gratifying.

Darwin,

Will you please include an addendum that lists the 5 best tricks in Cardshark this time? I know that not including it last time must've been some sort of oversight on your part. And while you're at it, if you could include a Post-it Note that enumerates the 3 best tricks from the "5 Best Tricks" sheet, that would be helpful too.
