On Fantasio's site, the picture of the vanishing candle shows a clear, small, plastic cap of sorts next to the collapsed candle. What is that for?? I had a Fantasio vanishing candle years ago and it didn't have that piece. Is that some sort of cap to attach to the bottom of the candle when it's extended so that it stays extended?

That is a tube for inserting into your favorite single candle holder, so the candle fits perfectly into the holder. That way you can display your candle on your table.

As well as you can then hold the candle in the middle while extended with this end piece attached. you can then palm it off and ditch it.
but I use it as Bill explained. it goes into my candle holder and makes it a perfect fit

The gimmick for the candle to stay extended is in the lower picture with the silk scarf. It is also detailed in the Fantasio Cane and Candle Book.
