The hallucinogenic experience is sort of between these two worlds of place and experience. But be warned it also can (and often does) unalterably change your brain, mood and personality- forever. Many who have experienced it wish they could go back and put pandora back in the box. Also, many who have had what they felt were "life-changing experiences", later went on to live their lives "business as usual". That being said, my best piece of advice on these matters, if one were to explore that (and I advise you heavily against it) is to stick with the organic, grown-in-the-earth substances like cacti and fungi and not to experiment with the laboratory versions of these substances. At least then your body has a fighting chance to assimilate the organic material (rather than the harmful man-made chemicals). These experiences are mystical, but the cost may be too much to pay.

However it does not mean to disregard or exclude the more personal experiences. That's why I added the kids and grand kids part. I am thankful that there are those out there that think of those things first. As this is a great discussion so far I am glad that it has drifted back and forth as it has. I hope that you and others will continue to add to this because my original thought was to connect with people. To do so in a way that shows what people need, want, have, or wish for. I also wanted to see what people have seen in the world and were taken back by. Thank you all who have participated thus far as well as those who will. _ |

I've lived in Europe and Asia, traveled to all seven continents, and witnessed many and more of the things some of you have mentioned. Not bragging, just saying how fortunate I have been. I had a great job and it was a wonderful education being able to travel to the places we've been to.
The one thing I haven't yet done and I'm still finding it hard to pull the trigger on, is the thrill of jumping out of an airplane, obviously with a parachute. I'd also thoroughly enjoy the experience of weightlessness in outer space. I have to say though, that my most absolute exhilarating life experience has been observing Polar Bears on ice floes in the Arctic Circle, up front and personal as they devoured seals they'd killed. Nothing in my life will ever beat that. The ONLY thing that will, will be my dying and going to Heaven. A definite bucket-list recommendation. (not the dying!)

Bob1Dog, if we included things I have finally accepted will not happen, experiencing space flight would have been my number one! For many years I kept a rejection letter from NASA that I got after college, when the dream was still alive.

I am going away in March and I think there are things and places best seen at certain times of the year. They say March is the best time to visit Cuba and its a place I have always wanted to see.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

NASA were looking for people with a degree in electrical engineering or similar. Also, I had no flight time behind me. The flight time was not insurmountable. I could have spent a year or two building up that experience. But the physics degree was not what they wanted at that time. During the later Shuttle years I might have made the cut, but not when I applied. I was also rejected by the European Space Agency.

The lava tubes & caves of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands.
The cave (thought to be the world's largest) was created around 3,000 years ago by lava flows erupted from the nearby volcano Monte Corona, flowing toward the sea. The lava streams cooled on top, developing a solid crust, before the lava drained away leaving the top part as the roof of a cave. In about 20 spots, the roof of the cave collapsed, forming a cavern known locally as a jameo. The caves extend for 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) above sea level and for another 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) below the sea (the Tunnel de la Atlantida). One jameo forms the entrance to the Cueva de los Verdes. Two kilometres of the cave system were developed for tourists in the 1960s, with the cave walls illuminated by colorful lights. The cave is also famous for its concert hall which is located near the entrance and exit of the cave. The concert hall has about 15 to 20 rows with 26 seats in each row, allowing up to 500 people in the concert hall at once. At the end of the guided tour (which is spectacular), lies a "secret" which will be disclosed (and one magician's in particular will appreciate!!). In earlier centuries, inhabitants throughout Lanzarote hid in this cave to protect themselves from European pirates and Muslim slave raiders.

Been going to Lanzarote for the last five years ( a bit of winter sun at Christmas/ New year) and there's a fair bit more to see than that. I have no bucket list... I take every opportunity to experience life as it comes. I've done the Dad bit with the birth, I actually started smoking again, after a short lay off, that night... It was a long strenuous day. Though I'm not a religious bloke, I'd love to bump into my Mam and Dad in Heaven. I'm sure I'm not the only bloke who thinks they're not religious, yet secretly hopes there's something more!!

I've just done 2 weeks in Lanzarote - then to the UK for a couple of months before heading back to St Pete. Intention is to retire to Lanzarote so like to keep an eye on how things are going. Hard to beat the climate...or cost of living
