Has anyone ever used an ultrasonic directional speaker to whisper in spook show participants ears?
I just picked one up and I'm very excited with the potential! For those who haven't heard of this technology; it's an extremely directional beam of sound. Like a laser pointer but for sound. The sound is transmitted in a modulated radio wave until that wave hits your ear drum then it is converted into sound. The result is a silent beam of sound that only people that it's pointed at can hear! In other words it can point it at a person 100 feet away, whisper in their ear, yet be silent to everyone else. The sound in the listeners position is omni present so the source location of the speaker is not determinable. You know! Just like those voices in your head! |

Looks very interesting
Could you specifically target one person in a normal size room? |

I witnessed one used in a seance context and it was impressive to say the least.

Never seen one in person, but I have watched someone use an old fashioned spirit trumpet, but I don't know how well those would play nowadays.

The spirit trumpets are just plain creepy looking objects. I've been trying to get one at auction for awhile, but they keep getting snatched up at prices far higher than my purse will allow. I would imagine combining the trumpet prop with this technology would be a powerful coupling.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

This has been around for a while. The military even played with the idea of using sound as a way to make a person incapacitated.

The problem with these sorts of things other than what Todd said is the price tag in most cases for a good system the cheap ones are not worth owning.... Which a good one is comparable to building and totaling the race car. It's also about the same amount of work as building the race car is required to get it tuned in to do what you want it to do.
That said they are really cool. In the aluminum hat wearing crowd they call this thing Voice to Skull technology and several patents have been filled since the 1970s for various forms of this technology however most are now classified. Once it becomes common place in advertising and response marketing the prices will come down and by then it will no longer be useful. Still cool but not usable for our applications. But prepare for death if you wife ever finds out what you paid for it. Another reason I not getting married. I would not live long enough to enjoy my toy collection once I did. Even the stuff I have before we got hitched would be in jeopardy. Great toy but way too much money. Although E.L.F. Technology is much more affordable to create an emotional or sensory construct. But even that stuff runs around 1500 and up for usable equipment. should also point out much of that gear is also highly questionable as to if it really works or not. Some of it does and some of it does work but not as well as one would think it does still way cool for the seance room. Regardless if it actually works or not as it does seem to do something. I really love the older psychotronics equipment as there is not much better or more interesting stuff on the market. Plus buying some of it is like a shady back of the room sale in a trailer park or old warehouse kinda like buying crooked gambling equipment years ago. And that experience alone is worth the price paid for the gear. Also do not ask me where to get the gear you have to find it for yourself as that part of the secret club membership requirement. The stuff is out there but you have to find it on your own. I will give you a tip when looking for this kind of stuff if the website is that old looking style of late 1880s early 90s style of website and not the types we have now you may be close to finding what it is your looking for. If the website is all slicked up the equipment is no good or it looks even like the Café style of site its too new and no good. You will then need to set an appointment and go see the guy in person with cash in hand. Yeah that's how it is. But its a good hunt for the cool stuff plus you get a dance with the devil along way. |

It sounds like the Airzooka toy, except it's for sound, much more advanced and expensive.

It is used by the military and law enforcement under the brand Lrad. His company before taking the name Lrad was American Technology and they made some more reasonable versions for the Kiosk and marketing to consumers in stores, etc. market in the mid 2000s. Those commercial units were $700 and according to the spec sheet can go 100 yards. It appears there wasn't enough interest in them for marketing as Lrad doesn't currently offer any smaller under $1000 units specific to retail environments. The AT commercial versions show up on ebay from time to time for as low as $100. These commercial versions are robust as they were designed to operate all day, everyday. In the manual they say for professional use only and not for outdoor use. I suspect that aside from the package the device is contained in, ATC would not redesign the speaker panels, meaning they are most likely the same core design that is in the more expensive lrad type products of that era minus the weather proofing attributes. http://www.lradx.com/ |

First there are different patents on this technology. Some of which are way better than others. Go ahead get the unit for a $1000 then tell me how well it's working for you.

Here's a link to an "affordable" system. Not sure how well it works or if practical for our nefarious purposes.

So far I've found the reflection attribute of this technology to be the most powerful. Producing sound from an impossible location seems to be the most "supernatural" ability so far. The long distance attribute is interesting and may prove exciting in a graveyard performance setting reflecting voices off toubstones. The highly directional ability to target a single person isn't what I had hoped close up because of the reflections. That feature works best outside and lends itself to not bothering neighbors next to a graveyard as traditional sound would. Keeping your sound contained to a specific area. You can target individuals at long distances but they perceive the sound as coming from where the speaker is located. That means if you're not bouncing the sound off anther surface that is impossible (a wall, glass window, tree trunk), they will think nothing special of it. However some may react different and not realize why. Simply because if you can hear the sound at a distance the volume does not vary linear as normally it would. It sounds the same volume at 75 or 150 feet with the volume dramatically reducing to silence very quickly outside of the "cone" of sound. I ran a loop of chanting evil voices and aimed it down my street. Many passer by people made strange confused faces and turned to look back when they entered the cone about 50 feet from the speaker.
That's all for now. I'm working with the HSS-450B. |

MM I am laughing from your last post. Are magicians just naturally hard wired to do strange things to the public? It brings a smile to my face knowing that on some random street, anytown USA that an unsupecting public, will hear the chanting of evil and not know from where it came.......
