Hey, was really hoping somebody could help me here. I'm trying to find a headset mic for my shows but I haven't got a clue when it comes to this stuff. I just need the mic since the venues I work already have sound systems. I was thinking of this one... http://amzn.to/20l7HwV
I don't know anything about frequencies or stuff like that. Could any of you sound gurus tell me if that mic would be a good choice? |

Bahamagician, Shure is a good brand. I personally use an Audio Technica wireless system, with a custom Countryman E6 ear mic. That's pricier than the system you mentioned. But I would advise going to your local music store and trying out different wireless mic systems in person before making a purchase. It's a big investment, so make sure you're happy with what you buy.

Thanks for the response Arthur. I'd love to be able to go to a local store but I'm in the Bahamas so I'm going to have to rely on an online purchase for this. I'll take a look at the Countryman!

In that case, do a search on the Café for previous threads on wireless mic systems. There have been some good discussions from people who know a lot more than me. Good luck!

The Shure BLX14 is a good system but the headset is bulky. The countryman E6 headset is one of the best I have used but cost over $350 You might try the OSP HS-06 it runs for about $120 and will work with the Shure system.

I am surprised that Shure has never changed their design on that headset (PGA31) except it is now on the left side of the face. I guess the bigger the mic, the less feedback you get being a cardioid electret condenser mic. The smaller invisible versions get more feedback. Just my experience.

I had feedback problems with my first Countryman E6 ear set mic, which was omni-directional. Traded it for a directional model, which solved the problem.

I have a DPA headset mic and so do two of my magic buddies.
We love it. They say mic should be 1" from corner of mouth. DPA can hook you up if you have a BIG head too. Not cheap but Very High Quality. Customer Service is good too.

I use a Sennheiser headset mic.
It's cheap. It's awesome. It's a hyper-cardiod mic and there's absolutely NO feedback even in situations where you'd expect it. Not all headset mics are the same. If you get an omni-directional mic you're prone to feedback. You also need to check OBF (output before feedback) and compare those values to help you make a decision.

I guess I will be sticking to this bigger type of headset for my smaller shows where speaker placement could be a problem.
