Al Schneider's The Theory and Practice of Magic Deception. This book and his first DVD are priceless.

Let me second Designing Miracles by Darwin Ortiz. By far the best book on magic theory I've ever read. It appears to be often over-looked by people who think its only for developers of magic. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is the book, for me, that let me finally "get it"...

I second The Books of Wonder and add the often overlooked Beyond Secrets by Jay Sankey.

I want to chip in here and recommend Magic and Meaning by Eugene Burger and Robert Neale. Its absolutely a book on theory. Also another book that is a mix of theory and effects is another Eugene Burger book called Mastering the Art of Magic. Its absolutely a performance changing book.

You don't need much else than Maximum Entertainment. Look for Visions Of Wonder volume I and if you wanna look deeper try Strong Magic. In mentalism, nothing beats Mentalism Reveals by Mark Elsdon.

OK, call me crazy on this one. "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. Has zero to do with magic, but it is all about relating to people and what they want, rather than what you want. Yes it is a sales training book, but you need to sell yourself before your magic. Try it.

I second Dale Carnegie! magic is NOT about "tricks" - it's about connecting with people to entertain them. If you can't "read" your audience and give them what they want, then you're just another guy doing boring tricks.
Also, don't forget "The Amateur Magician's Handbook" by Henry Hay. Ed |

I totally agree about the Carnegie book, though I do not own it yet. I understand enough of magic theory to know this book makes sense. As a matter of fact, Dariel Fitzkee also recommends it! Which reminds me, I should tell you guys which books I have attained.

Yet another post about "Magic In Mind"... Nothing I can say here that wont just sound like all the usual hype but this book is all that and more. and free!
The more I learn, the less I seem to know.

Tommy Wonder has a lot of good writing on magic theory.
Good stuff, takes a looong time to absorb, is the ideas are quite dense and for me at least, required several readings of it. |

Javlin5 did indeed shoot to 50 in a hurry! I hope he sticks around as a contributing member of the community now that he's reached his goal.
It's still magic even if you know how it's done.
