I have known the workings of the Balducci Levitation for a while, but I never really performed it because it's not my style and it's not something I was interested in. Once in a while, if someone mentions Blaine and asks how he floated, I will do it to show them what he did. In the past, the reactions have been "yeah, that looks cool", but they apparently see how it works. They have not ever been blown away. But I'd only done it a handful of times and maybe my angles weren't right.
Well, the Blaine topic came up again this weekend while playing cards at a buddies house. I stood one of my buddies up, positioned myself at the correct angle, and did it, expecting him to say "yeah, that's cool, but Blaine floated for real, a few feet in the air!". But nope, I got a different response. An open jaw and a look of utter disbelief. My buddy then ran and grabbed my two other buddies and said "watch this, watch his feet!!". I did it again for the two new spectators. I finished it, and one of the new guys is sorta into magic and he knew the technique. But the other new spectator said nothing. Just a look on his face like he just saw a ghost!! And this is a guy who will normally venture several guesses after I show him any trick. I left him speechless! Maybe it was the fact that they had a couple beers in them, maybe I just had the perfect angle, maybe it was because of the dimmed lighting in my buddies apartment, but whatever the reason, the Balducci finally worked for me! I have never experienced the feeling of truly freaking someone out like I did that night. Man, this experience made me want to perfect a self-levitation and it made me witness to the powerful effect that self-levitation has on people!

You're right Danny...
It's one I save for special occasions when there is just a small number of people, 2 or 3 max. Thing is, I let OTHERS talk about it awhile before I take to the air...an old colleague of mine still rants about it, as he was one of the first people I showed, and he FREAKED...He sets me up every time...the last one was for a waitress and bus-staff at the local Mexican eatery...she ran off screaming, and the guys laughed and laughed and then BLESSED themselves! Never fails! Doug |

The Balducci has always relied primarily on the element of surprise and setting up a certain mood, which is why if anyone has time to think about it you'll be rumbled. I've avoided doing the Balducci recently because the secret had been revealed by so many people doing it badly or by spectators having read about it on the net (has it yet appeared in any of those "101 Tricks For Smug Kids To Impress Their Friends With"-type books? I suspect it's only a matter of time now before it joins the rubber pencil and Climbing Through A Postcard in those volumes). But it is a good basis from which to work on the principles, and with a bit of thought can be developed into better methods.

Ha!
Did it at work today as a joke...sent one lady off talking to herself, "...Lawd, he ain't RIGHT...I DO declare...it just ain't RIGHT...floatin' around the room like dat..." Laughed myself silly over that one! Once in awhile, when the time is right, look out! We be floatin'! Doug |

Yeah, I get this reaction from like 1 in 5 people. Lots of people have seen the exposes about how it works, or heard it from a friend. Pain.

So I guess the risk element is really high now with this one.
I do it seldom because I am always leery about those angles. But times I have pulled it off succesfully, it has killed! Bottom line:do the Balducci at your own risk! If you succeed your truly a god, if you fail, your'e a sop!!
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

I just got it to work the other day for the first time, too! Ironically, I was doing it to show how terrible I thought it looked and everyone freaked out. Oh well!
