Gene, on one hand I think it's great that you do what you do for the Café.
But on the other hand, when is this place going to be run and treated like a real business? You should not be expected to keep things up and running while holding another "real" job and also using money out of your own pocket. I think it's shameful that you should have to be asking for donations from members here (in another thread) and I consider myself to be a very generous person, but sorry that's just ridiculous. If that's truly the case then Steve Brooks needs to take a business course. This site should be a goldmine and Steve should be getting rich, while still being able to pay for it to be properly run and maintained. In fact, I'm all for Steve getting rich and I would love to be able to contribute to it. I would welcome the opportunity. As an example, I belong to another online forum for photography which has a fee of between 10 to 15 dollars per month (different levels of membership) in order for people to be able to access the forum. Not sure what kind of revenue the advertising brings in, but it should be considerable. But I'd gladly pay a fee to access TMC, and that's because it saves me way more than that every month by not purchasing tricks I may have purchased otherwise, the huge amount of resources it brings to my fingertips, the ideas and suggestions obtained, the comradery, and the list goes on. And that's not to mention the money I get from selling props and DVD's so quickly and easily, and from finding deals on used items as well. So I would more than get my money's worth. I couldn't afford not to be a member. There is too much good available here to be getting a free lunch. But of course there are certain responsibilities on the owners' end that would come with that as well. The site would need to be overhauled and improved with new features added regularly. Quite frankly, the Café looks like it was lost in a time warp from the 90's and new features are very few and far between. Anything new you have to implement on your free time, which is very much appreciated but it's time this place were run and treated like a legitimate enterprise and not something a teenager is running out of his bedroom. So Steve, how about it? Ready to get rich yet? Time for this place to live up to it's potential. |

Hey video,
I'm afraid you don't get it, but that's ok. This site isn't a business per se. That's all there is to it. It's a love. Steve has always said it will be free here. He's kept his word and I admire that. The Café has never been a money-making site and likely never will be, nor was it ever intended to be. Steve is one of the most unique people I have ever met. Nobody is paid, but there are expenses. Everybody donates their time. I can read anything I want anywhere on the site - secret areas and everything - but I don't care to. I'm not even a magician but I love what I do here. I've been here from the beginning and I wouldn't have had it any other way. If you feel we're in a time warp, that's fine. Personally, I like consistency, change just for the sake of change is unnecessary. Just my opinion, of course. I don't feel shame asking people to donate a dollar or two if they feel like it, nor do I even expect people to do that, but if you feel that I should be that's fine. I'm a humble person, we'll just agree to disagree. All this said, I'm VERY happy you are doing well and this site is of help to you. I think that's what Steve wanted, and it appears his ideas are working perfectly. Ok, that's it. Thanks.

I will just say we appreciate all the support the Café community has given us over the years. When I say support, I mean all the support. Sometimes it may just be a private message or email that says; "Thanks for all you do - we appreciate it!"
The donations the Café receives from time to time are very much appreciated as well. Just so you know, when you hit that donation button (PayPal), all the funds go directly to Gene, I set it up that way from the beginning because fair is fair - right? Thanks again.
