Is there any kind of app that allows you to practice with this stack rather than have a deck of cards with the numbers on the backs?

There's also a simple, online tool from J. Cheng, which might prove more useful on a phone/tablet.

Or you can use this free standalone Android application (ie, no connectivity is required) MemdeckPro.
The Joyal stack is not built-in, but it'll take you about 2 minutes to create it (without having to type anything )

Another more generic option is spaced repetition software (i.e. flash card software that ensures the cards you struggle/fail on appear far more often). Anki is free, open source and available on mac, win and linux. The small disadvantage is you have to make your own (electronic) flash cards first. The big advantage is the spaced repetition, which I'm a big fan of.
It's difficult to explain the advantage of spaced repetition unless you try it. |

Anki is great, I use it myself. However as far as advanced memdeck training is concerned it's lacking beyond the basics. MemdeckPro, among other memdeck specific apps, allows you to practice your stack (any stack really) in multiple advanced ways than Anki can't cope with. Just watch the demo to see what MemdeckPro can do.

An excellent program for iOS is the Ultimate Stack Trainer. Check the App Store. It's made by the fellow who created the Ultimate Aronson and Mnemonica trainer along with a new app that lets you work on other memory systems like the major peg etc. this particular trainer let's you assign any stack you wish.
