Whenever I've purchased something from him that was premade, I've never had a single issue, however the times I've tried to get custom work done it was a nightmare. Took months to hear from him, stuff got lost or he messed up. I ended up taking my business to Johnson directly. That's just been my expereince though

Just going by what I've read here on the Café, Roy "loses" an abnormally large amount of emails. You'd think he'd have that problem solved by now.
A lot of his shipments seem to get lost or delayed in transit also. Although I've never heard of him losing any payments made to him. He must just be a very unlucky person I guess, although his customers seem to bear the brunt of it. |

Roy makes the coins I use for Eclipse and his workmanship is superb. He has always demonstrated excellent service as well.

Think about the fact that he hand makes everything himself. Combine that with many custom orders and it makes sense that it would take months to get your coins.
Reality is a real killjoy.

I received my custom orders last week. I made three orders and two out of the three are completed. He mess up one of my order. I tired to calls and emails him but no reply. I guess I stuck with the mess up order. From my experience, you probably get 50/50 chance for him making order right. He have a terrible customer service. I might end up taking to Johnson to complete .even though I lost my moneys on Roy.

It's a shame to hear about Roy's challenges with custom orders. I recently bought an Eisenhower gravity flipper and shell set and followed up with a Kennedy set of the same pieces. Both came quickly and are of good quality. I don't have experience with his custom made coins, but his "in stock" work (and communication) is good.
Tada!...

Why is it if Lassen or Schoolcraft take a custom order and I've placed ample are they given all the time in the world? Roy has been around a long time and has always been a straight shooter. Why are custom orders with him, not worthy of
the same of Todd and Jaimie? I could never figure that out. I ordered some coins just recently, custom order and I expect to wait at least till December or so due to the custom factors I want built into the coins. Also just because you choose to place a custom order, do you think you have a Disney easy pass that puts you to the front of the line? How many other custom orders are ahead of yours. While you're a valued customer, it doesn't make you special. You wait like the rest of us. Do you think Johnson is just going to jump you to the front? There's never been a time I ever called anyone to check on a status of a custom order when I put one in, they accept send me and invoice and I pay it and wait. Hi Jake! Doug here.
I have never had anything but Johnson coins. But I have observed this back and forth for years. My question is this: Did Lassen or Schoolcraft ever send a customer a faulty gaff? Ever? If they did, how long did it take to rectify? I know someone who has 1K worth of Roy's work. Half of it cannot be used. Has Lassen or Schoolcraft ever done that? And not answered when a complaint was made? Being late delivering is one thing. Shoddy workmanship...there IS no excuse. I have seen enough complaints to never, EVER order from Roy K. Todd and Jaimie have a clean slate as far as I see. Or am I mistaken? Doug |

Something awry also happened to me. I would NEVER recommend Roy, he is not only unreliable but untrustworthy. I sent you a PM, Doug.

Hey Doug! I usually only deal with Jamie and Todd. I place my order, I PP the funds over to them. Both have always called me at home or the office just to clarity wait times, cost etc. At that point I just go about
my business and when FedEx or UPS shows up with the order, well then I know my wait is over. I have never ever gotten shoddy product from either coin machines. I've waited weeks, months or longer sometimes but I never worry about it,. Todd and Jamie are my sources for quality coin magic. One thing I can say is Roy's folding coins are very very good, especially profile cuts. If I ever need something right away I always go to Johnson or Sterling magic. Who ever cuts the coins for Sterling is an artist at it A very notable coin worker that everyone over looks is Joe Mogar, yes Knife man turned coin machines and I have been told he does some *** fine work. Tango was horrible in the beginning, but he has learned quite a bit in production and what performers are looking for. He also does custom work, or the last I checked he did. Also one other person, but he's long passed away was Connie Hayden. If you can find his work on auction sites snatch it up, you won't be sorry. Mad Jake Jr.
