That's brilliant. I love those moments in magic. You can tell Howard was genuinely fooled, and loved it too.

Excellent routine. (Mr. Asi is a very fine performer)

Smile
p.s. Watch it again. (Doesn't need to be released. Please don't comment, here, on the possible method. It would have to go downstairs, if, at all. Thanks!)

Okay, I'd love to discuss this. I get the method/procedure for the revelation of the chosen card (assuming I'm right), but I'm stumped on the instructions about the choosing and reversing part, and how it ends clean as it does. What am I missing, if it's not rude to ask? Is it that obvious to others? A hint on where I should go with my thinking? I just love it, and love his thinking, because the magic is done by the spectator. Brilliant and justified...

I think it uses same card as in Invisible card, cards are spray-finished on their backs. so if spectator turns over the card, that card and the card above it will stick together just like normal invisible card pair so you can't see it from the spread.

I thought it was along those lines originally as well, now that we've brought it out into the open. However, if you were to try it, you'd see it wouldn't work. There is a workable method along these lines, but a regular ID wouldn't do the trick. Smile

A buddy of mine who knows Asi claims no r/s is used.

A friend of mine claims that David Blaine can levitate... Really, if we don't know the method, we don't know the method, that's it... Asi will release it whenever he feels like releasing the rest are just hypothesis and trying to replicate the same effect even if the method differs. I think the effect is very strong and clean, if other people can replicate the effect using r/s, then go for it... for me, this effect gave me another idea... combined with Jason Dean one hand magic trick, you can do a selected card back to the box effect with only one hand.

I could only catch the obvious things other people probably flagged. The most difficult tricks to reconstruct rely on luck as part of the method. That's not to say this uses dumb luck (or even luck at all). I'd be excited if this is how it looks every single time.

Hi Scott,

There is a "similar" type of effect called 'Do As I Did' in Darwin Ortiz At The Card Table. I say similar, in that the effect uses two decks. Spectator takes one deck under the table and the other deck is left in it's box on the table. The spectator cuts the deck a few times then takes the top or bottom card and reverses it in the deck. This deck is then placed on the table. The Magician spreads the spectator's deck and there is one card face down. the other deck is spread and there is one card face down. When both cards are turned face up, they are identical. There are no difficult sleights or moves.

I've used it a number of times and it is very effective.

Hope that this helps.

All the best

Michael

Hi Michael, I like Ortiz's version, but it's a little bit different than Asi's. In the 'Do as I did' the magician handles the deck where the face down card appears. I like his version because the 'dirty' work disappears as soon as it is not longer needed. In Asi's effect it seems to me that the dirty work stays in front of the spectator for a little bit. Also, Asis's is clearer from the stand point that less props are used (one deck versus two decks).

This is so so smart - quick, clean and brilliant. Is it Asi's creation, does anyone know?
