Guys this is a very fun winner! The psychology behind this is insane. I actually smiled as I read this. I've been asked to do a few shows for a larger group of people in a larger forum then what I'm used to and if I do these shows I will use this without question. I am delighted that I purchased this. You get the feel of magic from a byegone era. This was a lot of fun. I wish I could practice this right now. Great job Devin.

It can be a man or a woman but more fun if a woman transports from one side to other because of the way the trick is framed and nothing is rehersed

I don't do stage work so I'm wondering if I could perform this at work. We've just purchased 50 2M high privacy screens and we have a very large hall too. Would it work in that kind of environment? Is there any spacing requirements in terms screen positioning and audience management?

I wanted to chime in again about this effect. This is SO bold that a few magicians who read the PDF think it will not fool. However, those magicians are thinking as magicians and don't fully understand the psychology and time management to create the illusion. Blackstone, both SR and JR did a BOLD duck vanish that you would not think would fool, but it did and was a feature in their shows. Under the misdirection of Blackstone chasing a runaway duck, the rest of the ducks were pull off stage IN FULL VIEW OF THE AUDIENCE, though nobody saw it because they were watching Blackstone chase the duck. Those who said the audience will see that, did not understand the proper use of misdirection that Blackstone was a master of.
The trick where a selected card appears under a glass that has been in full view, requires boldness and misdirection, but it blows away spectators. Many magicians read the method and think the audience will see you put the card under the glass. They don't understand the proper use of misdirection. I put this little house in the same category. The method is extremely bold, but for magicians who understand the psychology behind this, they realize that this is designed to create a false belief in the audience's mind and with the small time delay misdirection, the audience will not be able to fathom how it was done. To do this, you need to understand FULLY the psychology that leads them down the yellow brick road. If you use this super bold method and have audience management skills, you will blow them away. I know. I have done this for 30 years and never been caught doing the method. Often, this is the most talked about thing in my show. I get an inner thrill each time I do it, knowing what I have pulled off with sheer boldness. That is what good magic is all about. In my opinion, U. F. Grant had a brilliant idea, that was one of the best illusions he created. Many magicians read the method and said that would be obvious, they were wrong. That is why it is NOT well-known today. Fear of getting caught doing it. I saw the potential and improved the method and to this day, it is one of the most baffling things I do. Those who try this will see for themselves just how good this is. |

I must be part of a show, you need to do something prior, do the little house and immediately go into another trick for them to focus on. This way the audience does not have time to think about the illusion and how it was done. By the time the next trick is over, the audience has missed what just happened before and it becomes impossible to reconstruct how the little house was done. To do this properly, it must be part of your act and not a stand alone illusion. |

This is a bold effect. But as I read the pdf I read it in almost a duel reality state of mind...performing as well as viewing it from the audiance. If performed as written this will so entertain and amaze. I have an idea Id like to share. If you buy a mini house that lights up with a little switch button you can look into the house to find your female volunteer and pretend to not see her and then the lights come on you pull away quickly as if startled and say oh ok there you are. I told my wife this idea and she liked it so I'll be using this and I wanted to share this with you.

My pleasure. I'm glad you like it. This is such a fun read and one that I can't wait to practice and perform. When I do finally perform it I will post my experiance with it. However that won't be for awhile. My next show is in December but this will give me more than enough time to find the just right house and rehearse the patter and timing. But as you can maybe already tell I'm pretty excited about this. I do question why the gutsy effects seem to hit a cord with me. Another gutsy effect by Devin The Glass Box Prediction is one that always if a thrill for me to perform and it is a bold face effect with lots of entertainment as well.

I remember seeing Blackstone Jr. twice as a kid - probably between 1972 and 1978. My Dad was a huge fan and amateur magician so my brother and I were lucky enough to see numerous magic shows - Copperfield twice, etc... The one effect - from my childhood that I remember most - was performed by Blackstone. He would have a wizard come out his entire show, periodically, wanting to help, point out, just bother him...Finally at the end of the show, the wizard comes out with a gun (I think) and acts like he is going to shoot Blackstone. Harry proceeds to run around the stage, finally picks up a curtain (I think) and backs up some - the wizard fires (I think) and the curtain drops and there is a werewolf/gorilla (I think). The Wizard walks center stage and takes his mask off and it's Blackstone! Freaked me out!
You'll notice the "I thinks..." scattered above - it's been 40 years! My Dad and I were completely fooled as was everyone else in the audience and we spent months deconstructing that effect - great fun! And in my mind, that's what good magic is all about. One of my fondest memories from childhood was that my Dad took me back to see Blackstone again and we watched the whole performance with different eyes - a brilliant example of staging and execution. I actually performed a variation later in some of my college and high school shows and was always the most discussed effect. Obviously, Blackstone's effect takes assistants etc. and I haven't read Devin's take yet, but the above misdirection discussion reminded me of this experience. Just curious - anyone else remember seeing Blackstone perform this? Devin, I have quite a few of your effects so I'm going to have to get this! Thanks, Ryan |

Ryan if you liked the workings of the above mentioned Blackstone effect you will be thrilled with Devins pdf. My mind keeps going over this.
Karl I'm glad you like my idea and I wish you the best in your performance. Nice touch with the delight! If anyone ever looks at your house they will scratch their heads as to how the lights came on! Way too funny! Good magic to all, Eric |

I agree that this will fool people but the suggestion of requiring going into another effect straight after so they don't have time to think about the illusion makes no sense to me when apparently it's often the illusion most talked about after the show... If they talk about it after the show, it means they remember it most and so aren't they in the same position to backtrack it as they would be if you ended the show with the illusion?
During the trick, they make an assumption and that's what prevents them from backtracking the method. I don't think it matters if you then go into another trick or not, I think it stands on its own. I'm probably wrong seeing as Grant himself as well as Devin say you must go into another effect, I just don't understand what that changes. |

You know honestly I tend to agree with you. But I've learned there are reasons for why great minds say the things they do. I've been performing magic for 34 years and mentalism for about 13 years and the one simple rule I go by is if you respect the people giving advice and they know from where they speak then take their advice to heart. This is one of those times that I heed the advice of those of whom shoulders I stand on. But I know what you mean this is one I really don't see them back tracking period! And if you perform the second version...I double dog dare them to figure it out! Haha
