I'm really looking forward to receiving my deck...posted by Card Shark Germany today. Must admit tho I'm a wee bit nervous about the (blind) spec counting out first the number, and then the suit to allow the other specs to know what the card he is thinking of is. 1. The performer could listen for the number of times a card is put on the table and knowing the code, would also deduce the card. And 2. Surely a better use of the code for the "blind" spec would be to simply hold up a number of fingers twice - Once for the number and once for the suit. Or is this just overthinking ?

Yes, this is precisely why I've been querying this point throughout the thread. The ad does not say the deck is examinable, so I'm not bothered either way really... I'm just confused how a deck can be given as a souvenir, if it's in ANY WAY gimmicked (roughing fluid, Science Friction, whatever), hence why I was asking whether we'd be receiving the exact same deck that was used on the show...

Simple, buy an extra blank faced deck and use this

It's quite obvious that the part of the deck that is dealt down, by the spec, is the examinable section, so no worries there. I actually prefer 'I hate card tricks' effect. What I do not like about either of them, though, is if a clumsy spec reveals the blank cards. Very easily done unfortunately.

I immediately consider the wisdom, the psychology by the late Tommy Wonder (his famous Tamed Card, also now released by Card Shark as well) applied in this routine when Josh lecture in Hong Kong a few weeks ago when explain it.

As long as a bunch of single decker cards can be handle by the audience, that's it, their brain will not function anymore and it will go straight to the magic way and surrender.

It just release at the time when I not have that budget to get it right away...

I think I'd show the deck to be blank beforehand stating that "this is a blind mans deck of cards" and the specs thought of card magically appears amongst the otherwise blank deck during the reveal.

Really but the blank cards at the end are the hit in the head you had no idea was coming?

Yep I agree as well. My tracker says mine should be here by Friday. Regular first class mail sucks! Lol. But it was free shipping so... But what is sad is I'm in California and this is coming from california! It seems it would be more of a hassle to have it hanging around. But they have vays of getting your money.

Good magic to all,

I really want to have this effect but the one thing that worries me is that I have to wear glasses only to read and if I am correct is this a problem?

I also wear glasses. I received this product and am really impressed with the strength and quality of it.

I did have the same thoughts. However the effect is still just as strong if I blindfold myself for the spectators part as further proof that I can't see what they are dealing.

Can't wait to run this routine past someone.

-Edit- I've just continued reading this.

I'd be more than happy to spread the deck and Joshua shows a very effective method for audience management with regards to the reveal that is being discussed above.

You are facing the other way. What happens when the spectator by accident flips over a card as they're dealing? Game over.
This is similar to Jermay's OOTW in that you're taking a big chance letting a spectator handle the deck. But I can see how magicians would like this.

I've performed the version that Josh published before dozens of times and this has not happened.
I think that in the original dvd (methods in magic) Josh had two jokers in the deck which he removed before the trick stars. That's how I do it anyway, makes the reveal more fun.

Good idea. I do cups and balls and start off with the final loads. It slays people.

I have on occasion used John Lovicks "I Dream Of Mindreading" which Joshua teaches on his Methods In Magic DVD. The presentation and effect are almost identical, expect in Out Of Sight you can actually produce their thought of card rather than just name it.

Is the effect really that much stronger when producing their card, considering you need a fully gaffed deck rather than a comparatively inexpensive blank face deck for I Dream Of Mindreading

Well in one case you name their card and in the other case you name and show their card and then show their card is the ONLY card in the deck amoungst all blank cards...yep I think that is much stronger...but I could be wrong.

Good magic to all,

Eric

Personally, I wouldn't name the card and then reveal it. I feel naming the card actually weakens the effect. I would simply remove the card, have them name their card and then have them turn the card over.

To me, this would hit much stronger.

Couldn't agree more Madison - when I first watched this on Penn and Teller, and he'd got the guy to count the cards onto the table twice, then he paused and said 'is your card the 4 of diamonds', I sat there thinking 'you've got to be kidding me, that's terrible! You just listened to how many cards he dealt and then immediately named the card!'. My wife, who has no idea how even a thumb tip works, looked at me and said the exact same thing... 'but that's rubbish, he just listened to him count 4 cards then count 4 again for the diamond bit!'.

Now obviously you don't actually need to hear anything, but in the mind of a spectator (i.e. ME or my wife when we saw it on TV), they will just think you heard the count sequence. So I agree totally that naming the card immediately after that bit is beyond weak. What's so strange about this effect though is that when the final blank deck is revealed, it hits you so hard and it turns into a truly incredible effect! Rollercoaster ride of being the most basic childish effect, to being one of the best card effects ever!

So I agree that it's just that little niggle after the count sequence that needs to be ironed out. One way to do it would be to directly address the fact that you could hear the count, and play to it, i.e. "now usually when a magician asks you to merely 'think' of a card, they will then use a process known as 'fishing' to try to identify it, or they could use some other method, such as a count sequence. So I could put my blindfold on and look the other way like this, then ask you to count the number of cards onto the table that matches your chosen selection - so if you chose a six, you would deal 6 cards then put the rest of the deck on top. So while you go ahead and do that, I would pretend I can't hear you, perhaps by continuing to talk like I'm doing now, but of course, all I've done is listened to your count sequence and I now know that the card that you've merely 'thought' of, is an 8...

...Next I need to identify the suit, and one of the ways I could do that would be like this..."

etc etc etc

That directly addresses the fact that the magician can clearly hear the count, so for me, it removes that 'obviousness' from the first part (the card reveal). And of course it leads perfectly into the knockout punch, which is the fact that even though I've shown the spectator how I could covertly discern a 'thought of' card, the whole deck is actually blank! It's that classic plot of building a spectator up and having them believe they're 'in' on the secret, then flooring them.

There's obviously a lot more to where I'm going to go with this, but that's how I'm personally going to resolve that issue.

I also think there is a great opportunity for comedy if you introduce earplugs and plug your ears as well as blindfold yourself.

But I do believing saying, "count them very very quietly on the table so I can't hear it" should eliminate the thought that you heard the cards.
