Has someone put my dvd on YOO TOOB???

Check the link you provided above. I added a post.

I remember meeting a retired circus owner back in the '70s, when I was fronting Wayne Franzen'a little mud show. The old timer had a sense of humor (rare for an owner!). He was thinking of coming back out with a new show: "Birnam, Dailey, & Howe" Circus" I figure that you'll be able to decyper the "joke'!

Gopher Davenport, son of Ben Davenport (original Dailey Bros. --an old fashioned grift show) was the owner who split his show one season, and called the second unit: "Ryder Bros. Circus" (the rented trucks "came" prepainted!)

Someone once talked about putting out the "Don E. Kerr" circus...

The original question has more going for it than some might think. I've been in magic long enough that I remember a time when there WERE certain routines, sleights, etc. that were deemed excellent training tools whether or not the student magician ever did them professionally. They were things that at the time (and I believe still do) encapsulated fundamental techniques, etc. that would be an excellent foundation to build on.

For instance I would suggest the following:

Cups and Balls (I like Vernon's, but there are others.)

Linking Rings (See Routined Manipulations by Ganson...it's the routine I've done for almost ever ... it seems)

Egg Bag

Peter Rabbit (Personally, I believe this is one of the most important 'small' tricks ever devised. What you can learn from it as regards just misdirection alone is worth the study.)

Almost anything in the book Stars of Magic or Routined Manipulations vols 1 and 2 in particular: Both offer a stunning array of superlative material and technique.

There you go. Is this the only list possible? Of course not. But, I ran and taught in four magic schools from the B & H School of Magic, which became the Stan Allen School of Magic (yep, of Magic Magazine fame); Chuch Martinez's Magician's World School of Magic, etc. Teach enough and you start to see how technique can be organized so that one thing leads logically to another, etc. A lot of the classics contain a wonderful selection of technique that is useful in many other areas.

Yeah Brad!

That's a good thought, and, a good list to "back it up".

The reason that I didn't respond to the OP with a 'Five Star List", as I'm sure, you as an "old" dealer realized, was that I recognized him for what he is/was. He IS what we used to call a "bedroom dealer"with minimal, if any, knowledge of magic. I think that he "knows" how the stuff that he sells, "works". I said "stuff", not tricks, 'cuz tricks can't be sold. Props & secrets can be sold. Tricks can only be be PERFORMED, USING props and/or secrets.

It is/was very evident to me that he is looking for someone else to do HIS work for HIM.

"T.A.N.S.T.A.F.L."!!! (There Aint No Such Thing As Free Lunch" !!!

I didn't learn (and, I'm sure you didn't either!) what I know, without a lot of trial & error, study, practice ETC., and, I'm not through learning! (When you are through learning, you are through!) BTW, he, I'm sure, is not GIVING AWAY the SLUM that he stocks!

I did give him some FREE advice. Many on the Café would reply with a list of tricks that they LIKE! --All of which are "by" somebody. That would benefit NO ONE. It might give the "replyer" some satisfaction, but, that's all!

You noted that there are "generic" props, from which the practice and performance would help the beginner learn some basic principles and performance techniques. THAT'S ONE OF THE BIG SECRETS!!! (Sophocles explained it a few milleinia ago: "ONE LEARNS, BY D O I N G THE THING!")

I was about 12 when I first saw the egg bag performed. The guy did it with literally NO PRESENTATION WHATEVER. I didn't care if I ever saw the egg bag AGAIN!

Nine years later, I saw SENOR CHARLES MARDO'S LECTURE. Mardo PERFORMED the egg bag!!!!! I bought one the NEXT DAY. After a month or two of study, and PRACTICE, I tested it in the act. It played OK. More study, and practice. I tried it again. MUCH BETTER. Finally, after about 6 months, it began to play very well. In the 66 years since, I have WORN OUT egg bags. When I pick up the egg bag from the prop case I'm silently thanking SENOR MARDO! He provided the motivation and example, but, it required study and practice to learn that the egg bag was not a TRICK! The egg bag is a PROP, which I can use to PERFORM a TRICK.

While the amount of water has remained static, the amount of Tequila and Triple Sec available for making Margaritas has expanded enormously. So you see, we have made progress after all. ~Anonymous
