If someone has mastered this one message me. I'm not fully getting what happens when the spec stops on the devil while rotating the wheel. So simple , feeling dumb. I think my brain works differently. :/

Arrived safe and sound yesterday. It got caught for a customs charge but for some inexplicable reason it was then released without me having to pay it! What dark magic is this? As expected it looks and feels perfect and I can't wait to get started.

I'll have the kit tomorrow which I'm anxious to get. In the mean time I've practiced the effect with my 6 year old daughter. Only, I explained it like rock, paper, scissor with cards to match, then had her play against her beloved stuffed bunny rabbit. She kept beating her bunny until I whispered a secret to her bunny. At which time the bunny got really good. It was a lot of fun and I really like this effect. It has purpose and is easy to open up with. Highly recommend!

It is all fun and games until the bunny has to start sleeping on the davenport, though.

Reporting back with daughter number 2, age 12. Naturally when the plates were presented she said "this is a magic trick". So I let her win a couple times and loose once. She then said "It looked like a trick with these plates" As I would expect with a Spirit bell that made her cry and fake thumb tips in random drawers around here! But she had bought into it just being a game not a trick.
Without telling too much, she quickly associated the back bronzing pattern to the symbols hidden face down. Even though that is irrelevant, she concocted a way when construction the triangle that would make that relevant. Basically once the triangle was formed she knew she had lost. I may try to make the backs uniform to prevent that. By this point she was playing against a hot dog that appeared for lunch. I find that some people's brains "see" the method plain as day and others can't see it. I've found this to be true on other illusions like "free will" and Book at Midnight. None the less she discovered a new way to make Confundamus work if the backsides are unique. |

I simply removed the varnish (just on the back) with acetone, did some very light sanding all around until it was all shiny new brass, and then applied brass aging solution to the back which darkened it again uniformly. Did it on all three to get them the same shade. Probably the totally WRONG thing to do (I'm famous for that, not being a "handy" type) but it worked beautifully! I'm not sure if I should put another coating of varnish on the backs again or just leave it off... I'm thinking leave it off, but then the Prof is much smarter than I am about these things and probably had a good reason for doing it..! |

It also 'fixes' the ageing to stop it becoming too dark over time or else ageing unevenly again. For those wishing to tweak their sets: Acetone is available at any hardware/DIY store. You may apply it just to the back or dip the entire token to melt off the lacquer (this takes only a few moments). The shining may be accomplished with Brasso and/or steel wool (0000) and/or very fine sandpaper (wet/dry 2000-grit available at automotive supply shops, for example). Rinse well in cool water to remove all chemical and abrasive residue. A number of brass ageing solutions are available online by Googling the phrase. Just follow the directions supplied thereon to achieve the colour that you desire (this takes less than a minute or two to achieve a very dark patina, so keep your eye on it). Any self-leveling lacquer will be fine (spray or brush-on), also available at any hardware/DIY store--but you should apply it only to one side at a time, allowing sufficient drying time before turning and applying to the other side.
