Every year there is ALWAYS someone that comes on the Café thread to exclaim this is "the worst year ever."

Yes, there is always someone to poop in the punchbowl--and it's always someone who doesn't actually have the tricks.

The 2017 line is quite good in overall. Just that water one is a bit weak in effect

John, do you mean the small glass bowl with the odd lens at the bottom?
I am not banned from Blackpool anymore and shall be there in February. |

Yes that is it Richard, looks more like an oversized shot glass. With Dayton's idea and another tweak I added it is a fun little mystery.

Not sure how I feel about the water trick. I'm guessing it has the be the same card each time?

Why would anyone ban Richard from Blackpool? Sillyness....

I looked this up online and the whole thing seemed to be unfair and uncalled for on BP's part. While I have never met Richard, from what I gather here reading his interactions with members, he always tries to help fellow Magicians and is an asset to Magic.
Glad BP corrected things. |

The person who was running the Blackpool convention is no longer there. All bans were cancelled after he left except for one person.

Nice collection from Tenyo. But I notice the Ghost Leg (One with pegs and the puzzle lines match up), if I'm not mistaken is based on an old mathematical puzzle from many years ago. I had a very similar trick in a Magic Set I owned in the mid-70s, but only used 3 cards with lines on. Now I'm guessing that the method is the same, if so, then once again the presentation videos are not showing an honest view. I bet the spectator cannot turn the cards top to tail without ANY interaction from performer, otherwise the maths do not work.
But I'll buy it just to have in my collection, it looks nicer and newer than my original version! |

I am not familiar with the original version but the method must be different.I believe in the Tenyo version the spectator does have a complete free choice of how the cards are ordered and turned over. The videos are accurate.

Xl18 you are correct. I've just found my original magic trick and I just tried it and you can turn cards in any direction or in any position! It's called Light the Lamp (no makers name as it came in a children's magic set), and has a mat with switches pictured on the left and light bulbs on the right. The spectator had to select a bulb to light and then chose the switch (similar to Tenyo numbers and alphabet). What threw me was the extra card they use compared to this version, however, not to give away the secret, that card is NOT needed for it to work! Still a clever principle. Cannot wait for it to come out over here, I definitely want this.

Too bad Tenyo didn't keep the switch/bulb idea, it makes it more interesting (and for children...).
markymarkmagicuk, can you tell us the maker of the children magic set ? My head is turning with this trick... Thanks ! |

Hi papawemba, sorry but don't recall the maker. it was in a clear plastic lid with horrible pink box. It had the usual kids magic, stretching cards, nails thru coin etc.. I have an old cine film (remember those before the days of video!!) of me performing tricks from it. Must be early 70s maybe 72 - 74.
The trick is in poor state the paper mat is ripped, although looks good with switches one end and lamps the other and with lots of broken wires between. I may knock up a copy on card and maybe film a performance of it. |
