Cody is such an amazing creator/performer.
In this beautiful version of The Open Travellers, Cody managed to remove pretty much any sleight of hand and turned it into an almost self working miracle. I am also very happy that they provide 2 gimmicks both for red and black rider backs. Well done Cody and The Magic Estate!!! Unable to view the demo. It's a stuttering mess on all three links.

I don't understand... Is there enough new here to warrant a release? A $25 release at that?

There is already a thread about this here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=218
I had the pleasure of seeing this live, and have been working it since then. It's a really clever approach to Open Travelers. The gaff included is a lot of fun to play with. There is a link to the demo in the thread I've mentioned above

I love Cody, but...
This looks like another version of Paul Harris' "Incredible Tap Dancing Aces" only not quite as good. Maybe I'm missing something. Robert |

Hey guys,
Just wanted to clarify this for everyone. This is NOTHING AT ALL like "Tap Dancing Aces" from Paul Harris. I just checked my Art of Astonishment books and the two routines are completely different. Perhaps by chance (or not) the very next routine in the Paul Harris book is in fact Paul's version of the "Open Travellers" plot. Perhaps this is what the above posts were referring to? In any case, Paul's routine is great, however does require some medium level card abilities and perhaps the use of a close up mat in order to effectively lay down the doubles as taught in the routine. My version of the "Open Travellers" plot is one that I created for strolling gigs. It is very easy to do and requires almost no sleight of hand. The special gaff does 99% of the work for you and also allows for some very clean displays of each ace before each vanish and the after the reappearance. The displays in this routine are simply not possible without the gimmick. It starts clean and ends clean with only the four normal aces on the table. (This is what has been added) Thanks again for all the kind words and interest in this effect. To be quite honest, I personally don't care for gambling theme routines however this particular subject is very interesting to laymen. This is the routine that I use when someone says, "Do you play cards in Vegas?" Anyone who has done enough card tricks professionally has gotten some version of this question. This is simply my response to that question in which I pretend to 'let them in' on some secret gambling moves and techniques. Like I said before, the routine (method) is dead easy. This gives me the ability to focus more on the presentation and just have fun with the audience. Anyway, I hope this clears up any confusion about what you are potentially purchasing... Thanks, Cody S. Fisher

Same here ... Don't think it's worth $25 , actually I don't exactly see why a gimmick is needed though ... I mean it may be a little cleaner display , but for lay people it doesn't matter much yea ...

Looks decent but I have to say that I have a number of books with multiple tricks in , that have this type of effect .
Think there's a Regal one that cost me £35 , so why anyone would pay £21 for one trick is beyond me. There's one display point that the gaff obviously helps you create but other than that you could achieve this without a gaff. |

Did I see this originally released for $10 by hocus pocus? If there are obvious improvements made since the original release then maybe someone could pitch in and let me know as it now seems to be £21 in the uk?

I've been playing with this for over 10 years. When it came out it was about 10 bucks. I'm assuming the reason creators refurbish routines and raise the prices are because they improve them over the years and can now put out additional ideas via digital download. A great value if you want to see it in action. When I got this back in the day it came with a little black and white pamphlet with a couple pages of instruction.

Paul Harris' Invisible Palm was my first encounter with the Open Travelers Effect. I learned it a long time ago out of Las Vegas Close-Up. Wat struck me at first was what Paul Harris wrote as an introduction:
"Dai Vernon once said that if you wanted to make a name for yourself in magic, you should take one routine and learn to perform it better than anyone else. At the age of 18, this is the routine that I sweated over for an entire year - working in it almost every day, losing sleep over it almost every night." This wasn't the routine I decided on, but I took it as very valuable advice. On topic: As an Open Traveler enthousiast, Vegas Aces seems to be a valuable complement for strolling venues and people who are not confident enough with their card skills. |

I was discussing Vegas Aces with a fellow magician at a gig last night. We were talking about the 'art' of magic and if simplification was an admirable goal.
Which aspect is more central to the art: The mechanics or the presentation? If we say that the meat and meaning of a trick is its performance and the effect it has on the spectator, then the more simplification of method, the purer the art.. Or does the degree of effort/mechanics/complexity, add or subtract value? Should we, as we develop as magicians, strive to strip away all unneeded, wasteful, or needlessly complex methods, to aim for the most direct, stripped down, pure method for any part of a trick? Vegas Aces creates an 'easier path' to the effect. Funny what you get talking about whilst the awards/speeches take place...

The pureness of an art form is in its experience upon its audience. Much of simplification comes with a cost to the magical effect, a cost to that experience upon its audience. In the case of Vegas Aces the gimmick makes for a much cleaner visual image and, therefore, a more magical experience. The fact that it involves less difficult sleight of hand is a fortunate byproduct of making the effect stronger.
