Secret to Getting Rich

The reason you clicked on this topic was because one of the top motivators is money. We can all use more of it, including Bill Gates.

This post will give you the formula for getting rich, and it won’t cost you $200-$400 dollars. It will cost you effort on your part.

Having went through the many posts in the Trend section and reading the word scam mentioned quite often, this posted topic is for the believers not the skeptics!

How do I know it works…because I stumbled upon it. How you use it in Magic is up to you. First I want to define a term for this post.

Sellable Item: a product or service that the consumer MUST have.

Now let’s look at some rich companies

Company-------Sellable Item
---------------------------------
Microsoft--------Windows
Nextel-----------Cell Phone
Verizon----------Home Phone
McDonalds--------Fast Food

What do they all have in common to you! Everyone reading this post has a phone, a computer, and needs food to survive. (Yes, I know there are a few exceptions, lets not debate this)

The secret is quite simple:

Find or Develop a Sellable Item Most Persons Need or Absolutely Want.

If you do this you will be a billionaire.

Here’s my story…
I stumbled on to a service which allowed police and firefighters increase their chances to get promoted. It got to a point if you wanted to get promoted or at least be on top of the list you needed to attend my seminar and be taught how to do this. It isn’t “MOST” as stated above, only a few thousand willing to pay what ever I ask so they will get promoted and increase their annual salary from $3,000 to $40,000 per year. My fee was generally their first week or month’s increase in pay. They got to keep the rest for their whole career and in their pension. When consistently the top ten names on the list were students of my course, the demand for my course went through the roof. Word of mouth is the number one marketing method.

What was realized here is a supply and demand principle. Marketing books teach you how to get the word out, but first you must have a Sellable Item.

Since this is the Magic Café, have a cup of Java and put on your thinking cap. How can this principle apply to the magic industry? First how much money do you want to make? The higher the number the more Sellable Items must be delivered. One in every household will make you rich. Anyone for a pet rock? (Comedy item).

Right off the top of my head, Fundraisers fit the bill. The client makes money with minimal effort on their part. And can do it year after year. You only need a hundred shows a year making a $1,000 per show to gross $100,000 dollars. Add in concession stands, backroom sales, and that number increases. If one group does this easily, they will tell other groups who ask at their annual meeting and showcase conventions their best fundraisers.

Halloween is the top grossing money making season beating out Christmas last year! That’s an interesting fact. So you can cash in on producing a Halloween fundraising show. Dinner/Theater shows (Murder Mysteries involving the audience.) A magical dinner/theater fundraiser will do the same thing. A little strolling magic, a variety show, or comedy show or an illusion show, fits the bill here.

What you are doing is filling a need of another, making them more money, than they are paying you. This will succeed or fail based on how good your show is, and getting the word out. You are responding to the “What’s in it for ME?” NEED of the client.

You need to do 10-20 birthday parties to equal one fundraiser. Birthday parties are mainly weekend events (52 weekends), and fundraisers can be every night during the week and weekends. This is not an easy task, doing seminars is easier but not as much fun.

Having said all this: What can you offer the Magic Café Community in the form of a “Sellable Item”?

Hi Gang,

What Dennis has written here is a real challenge. He has told you a true story how he made a lot of money by meeting the needs of others.

Then he challenged you by saying, "What can you offer the Magic Café Community in the form of a "Sellable Item?"

If you have something I need, then I want to know about it. I will pay you my hard earned cash if I think you can help me meet my needs.

The question is what do you have that I need?

Here is a secret, you possess something or know something of great value to me but you don't know it yet. You think that I already know what you know.

It's not true. Once you discover your hidden insights, talents, gifts and strengths, you will come to understand their value.

You may have a silly idea for magic trick, one that you have been performing, but never realized what a great idea it was.

I know a few years ago when I put my gag trick for the "headless rubber chicken" in my magic lecture notes, I never thought it would become a hit. Today, over 200 have been sold within the magic community.

When I was asked to present a lecture on Marketing for magicians, I never thought that those notes would turn into a Workbook and an Audio-CD that has help many magicians "position" themselves for making more money with their magic than ever before.

These are only a couple of my many ideas that have turned into valuable sellable items for the magic community.

When will I get to see and hear about yours?

I believe we are all creative, you just don't know where your strengths are within the creative cycle?
This is why I offer an assessment to all of my seminar attendees to discover where and how they are naturally gifted in the creative process. Once you know your strengths, it empowers you to be more creative.

Now take Dennis's challenge and create!

Great post by Den as well as Steve. I can certainly relate. I think we often times take our creativity or our ideas for granted and do not stop to think that they may be of benefit to someone else.

I guess if I had to mention some of my strengths or gifts that may be of benefit to the Café and others, I would have to say it is my strength in creativity and design.

As many of you know, when I am not doing my magic, I am a graphic designer and illustrator. I specialize in logo and identity design and have been doing it for years.

The problem was I always kept my art and design separate from my magic world. I am not so sure why I always did that, but I realized only recently how wrong that philosophy really was.

I realized that I could combine my love for art and design with my passion for magic and really be able to offer and share something of value to my magic brethren.

With this idea, I finally started to offer design services and design advice to magicians and entertainers who could benefit from it.

Going to a designer to get something done for your marketing, is always a good step. What I realized is that we magicians have a vocabulary and a set of needs that only a designer who is also a magician truely can understand. This is what I realize makes me unique.

I understand the world of the magician and can take those ideas and needs of the magician and convey them into a physical design that not only looks great, but meets the direct needs of that entertainer as well.

I am still working out these ideas and striving to share this creativity and knowledge with others. I only wish I had realized this sooner.

I hope to be able to get some interesting products out on the market sometime real soon that may be of benefit to everyone. I will keep you all posted on the progress.

I'm still feeling out my "talent" or what I have to bring to the table, but here goes. I have created a few effects that I have shared with others to field test. As I am still a college student, I interact with different kinds of people daily. If you have an effect you would like to see how people react to, or just a beta tester, I would like to offer my services. I will gladly trade for one of my effects.

Great post, Den.

It reminds me of another great advice that's now etched on my mind (I forgot who the author was; somebody please remind me). It says, "If you help enough people fulfill their needs, you'll get rich," or words to that effect.

Ben,

I like that saying because that is exactly what happened. Guys were getting promoted bringing in additional income, they got excited on that promotion and told their friends, and so forth.

My intention was to see if the idea worked and it just took off.

To All...

Find a way to bring joy to someone's life and you will be amazed at the results. Find a way to just take people's money and, that too, you'll be amazed at the results...the fastest road to failure.

I met Steve Hart (Short converstion and he might not of remembered me), at the Kidabra Conference, and I had an inter chuckle when he told me what he does. In my words, "He helps people find that which they always had and didn't know it, what a great job!"

Every person has within them the ability to "be rich", and most don't know what it is, or it hasn't "unfolded" for them to see it, or it's there and they haven't grabbed it for fear of failure. For some, it may not be monetary.

Even this post or this line of postings may trigger that individual to seek out "that", which they have within. Go for it. Remember, a baby crawls, before he stands, falls before he walks, and runs when he finds how easy it is. Accept this great fact of life and corporate reality.

Ben,

I think you may be referring to Zig Ziglar, who said "you can get anything you want in life as long as you help enough people get what they want."

He's one of my favorite motivational speakers.

Magicmikey,

Thanks to you and to Paddy (who PMd me with the same name) for reminding me it was Zig Ziglar who originally said the words I quoted above.

The gist of ZZ's statement stuck to my mind, but his name did not. Signs of advancing age and not reading enough? (Sigh.)

Hey thanks Salsa. I mainly deal with print design and specialize in corporate identity and branding for the magician and small businesses. I enjoy it and it is great way for me to give back to the magic community.

I also do a lot of website design and layout for sites. I am just not great at the coding aspect just yet. I have designed numerous websites and have designed my own.

I am working with a design partner at work. He is a website coding wiz and he and I are helping each other out.

I would like to get your opinions on the site as I progress through it and bounce some ideas off of you if that would be ok.

It is always great to meet fellow designers as well as magicians. I will have to check your site out.

Hi, my name is Daniel. I know that an extreme talent of mine is music. I play the piano, and I was just thinking, how could they be combined? Does anyone have any ideas?

I hate to double post but I wanted to let you know I saw your site and was very impressed. Being a designer, it takes a lot to impress me and I had to tell you that your work is very top notch, clean, professional and really works.

I would highly reccomend Salsa for anyone thinking about website design. He has a good understanding of what design should be. That is design that looks good and communicates your business and message.

I just wanted to let you know what I felt about your work. If you care to see my own samples, please let me know. I would love to share them with you.

Kyle,

Thank you for your kind words. We have built the business on combining high quality design, low cost, simplicity and a good understanding of each individual customer that we work with. A lot of love goes into our websites.

Please email me some of your work to design@chester.com. I am always interested in talking design!

If anyone wants to talk about design aspects if they are working on their own websites I am more than happy to talk about that too..

Daniel,

The formula states, "What is it the client NEEDS?" How can you use your music to fill the clients need. Is it modern? Is it original? What is your target group? Is it only the piano?

Can you use a synthasizer? Can you float it like a zombie while playing your original tune that pleases most of the audience?

Music is one of the 39 listed audience appeals by Fitzkee in Showmanship for Magicians. It has a strong appeal, but it needs something to go with it. Music, is in everyone from birth. Research shows that all cultures have music in that culture. You are born with it as well as the ability for language. Music can grab "the soul" and it has an emotional impact upon the listeners.

This is just my line of thinking to get you thinking creatively.

Daniel,

There was a show over here in the UK called Max Magic and the guy in that did a couple of effects using his piano. They involved mental forces of pages in a music book and then he played the song.

I have been thinking about this for a while now... I do a gambling demo that's about 1 hour long. I'm thinking about marketing my services to these people who put on "Casino Nights" for fundraisers.

The Casino Night people could charge more for their services, I don't know if anyone is doing these type of gigs..

Do you think this is a good idea??
Self concept is destiny..

I believe Darwin Ortiz, (Author of Strong Magic) focuses on exposing cheaters and does seminars and lectures on this topic and is hired by Casinos for their customers.

In your case, the customer must not feel that when they lose they were cheated by the "Casino Night" operator. Also, Remember, 1 hour takes away from 1 hour of gambling, hence, a perceived loss of fundraising income.

Having said that, every casino offers entertaininment and if you advertise yourself as a draw for the Casino Night Operators" by exposing potential cheaters and how to protect their pocketbooks, their winnings, when to walk away a winner, etc. It may be a seller. Again, look at the formula, and determine, "What you can do for them." "What need MUST be filled and how will you fill it?" Even if it is a perceived need.

You must easily convince the "Casino Night" Operators they NEED your services and prove it to them. You also must prove you're a draw so more people will attend, hence increase revenues.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the ideas. I was actually thinking of a magic and music show, one after the other. Maybe an intermission session where I would show some magic. Thanks again.

Daniel:

Depending on your intended market, you could really combine both loves into one show that would be very uniqiue as a school assembly type of program.

Many magicians can do drug programs or self esteem programs. but to have a magician do a magic show that is themed around music and music from various cultures, could really be big. Not only that but you would be unique in that market as not everyone could pull that off like you could.
