Weapon (n.) Look up weapon at Dictionary.com
Old English wæpen "instrument of fighting and defense, sword," also "***," from Proto-Germanic *wæpnan (source also of Old Saxon wapan, Old Norse vapn, Danish vaaben, Old Frisian wepin, Middle Dutch wapen, Old High German wafan, German Waffe "weapon"), from *webno-m, of unknown origin with no cognates outside Germanic. To stress your point in public or not; that is the question.

When I was in Colorado I could not carry in anyplace that serves alcohol, is a State or Federal building, or has a sign posted disallowing (legal) concealed weapons. Guns and alcohol. What could possibly go wrong?

I had to leave my gun in the Jeep when I went to the casino; since they served alcohol.
With banks popping up in Wal*Marts and other places it is now illegal to carry in those places as well.

Possibilities lie between the two extremes of certainty and impossibility. What could possibly go wrong can also possibly go right. It is all a matter of odds. It seems there are three choices; to carry open or closed or not. How is the winner defined or how do we score in this gun game? How many points’ dos one get for going to the theatre and getting back home safely without carrying a gun? I guess one could keep score according to the points of blood spilled somehow.

When an individual specifies rules on their personal property they are not stripping of any right since you have no implied rights on their property. Consider that the "right to bear" of an individual is also the "right not to bear," and this extend to their personal property. A business "open to the public" might create a gray area for some laws, but not any defined by the Constitution as Amended. It is my feeling at the moment (open to change) that I, as an individual, have the right to know if another person is carrying a weapon or not. This can imply "open carry,' a tattoo on your forehead, public announcement/publication, etc. It has nothing to do with the right to own a gun.

How exactly does one prove that things would have been different had they been armed?
It is a ridiculous law. But the first time it is in court will be interesting.

Quote: Because in some special cases, a person might not want others to know that s/he's carrying. Let's say I'm taking a large sum of cash to deposit in the bank at the of the business day. I don't want to announce to the world that I'm carrying something valuable in the paper bag I'm holding. The second reason is that carrying a gun openly is sometimes, in some situations, an invitation for someone to challenge you--and you don't want to bothered with that every minute.

I think perhaps if people were not allowed to carry concealed weapons then the police would shoot less people than they do. I mean, I think if somebody is carrying a gun openly, then the cops are less likely to think them going for a concealed weapon, which is so often the case when the cops shoot people.

No, Slim. YOU have the comprehension problem. The "will not apply" that you so triumphantly put forth, applies ONLY if the property owner " whose conduct or failure to act is the result of gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct." In other words, subject to that qualification only, if the property owner chooses to allow handguns on the premises, he will NOT be held liable for gun injuries or death.
You don't even understand the law, but pretend to interpret it for us. |

A specious argument given that the communities surrounding Chicago have lax gun laws. As do neighboring states.

Year to date, did you know that there has been 2,000 shootings in that area? Oh, but that doesn't matter now does it. There could be 100,000 shootings in that area and a good handful of y'all would make excuses.
