Greetings-

Last few years I have started the routine 2 methods using 2 D'lites to music.

Reach up & grab lite -leads into routine etc.

Grab small lite off wall, Xmas Shows etc, if lites around wall area etc.

Would like to hear any other new ideas for starting this routine!! Mainly for a complete change as to my method of performing this effect.

My feelings would be to give a reason for doing what it is your doing. To just grab lights and throw them around does not seem entertaining enough.

It is similar to card manipulation. the audience sees a light, sees it vanish and then it returns again. Anything more then this becomes redundant really fast.

This is why I think with d'lites, you need to give the audience more so that it does not get repetitious or simply an act of showing off.

If you place the d'lite routine around a theme or story, that is one way to go with it to give it a bit something extra. Give a purpose or show a reason for having the light and where the light comes from.

Perhaps it is a battle of a light that just keeps coming back and you can not get rid of. You show frustration as you attempt to rid yourself of the pesty light.

Perhaps you tell a story of your childhood and how you used to catch fireflys in the backyard. You tell the story while sitting on a stool and while having a mason jar on a small table near you. You tell about how cool summer evenings were and how you remember it like yesterday. You put on a baseball hat as if telling the audience your going back in time.

Then maybe the music comes on, the lights dim down and you begin to do your d'lite routine as if catching fireflys and having fun with it. Each time placing what appears to be a firefly into the jar. Each time it goes into the jar, another one lights up in the jar.

You place the lid on so they do not escape but curiosity gets the better of you in the end and as you peer in, the fireflys (lights) go out one by one.

This is just an idea of whatever first came into my head. But, I think you get the idea of how you can work a routine like this to give the audience an experience.

I agree totally with the idea of a theme of some sort to give the audience a unique experience for the effect you are performing-entertainment & enjoyment are what its all about.

I like the idea of putting lites into Large Jar etc.

I will definitely consider a theme of sorts to do this.

You are very welcome. It is not to say that anyone has to use this idea or that it is the only one. It is there to show how you can add more to an act of this type and give the audience something more to get excited about.

I see too many people just basically dance around and show off bouncing lites all over the place. It does nothing for the audience and the performer is only performing for him or herself and not for the audience.

I think the gimmick of the D'Lite is just that... a gimmick. However, you take this gimmick and use it in some wonderful ways to build a magical presentation of sorts.

We have to think to ourselves what the audience sees and thinks. They see a manipulation of some sort of light. If we break it down to this simplest of ideas, then we can build upon it and go in unique directions.

We can think of what small things of light do we encounter in our lives that people can relate to. If we pick something that everyone has experienced, then we start to draw the audience in because they too can relate to what we are showing on the stage.

For an example of this thinking, we can take something that this light can be. Maybe this is a light from a light bulb. Maybe the magician is sitting down after a gig one night and he turns off the lamp to try and get some shut eye. The problem is that the lamp keeps turning on. He unscrews the bulb and places it down, only for the bulb to turn on while on the table.

In desperation, he reaches into the bulb and takes the light out into his hands and looks at it. He shrugs it off and places the light into his bag or pocket and falls asleep.

Maybe the rest of the routine is his battle with the light until he realizes that the light is the magic inside of him all along and decides to let it shine.

See what I mean? Relate the object to something people can relate to and build the routines around that. It will make them stronger.

You can create an upbeat routine with the lights. Imagine including D'Rose or D'Ring, adding a green light making it change color. It can be quite entertainming. I do a full 3 minute routine and use different colors and manips. aswell. Fire is an option aswell. Just find some upbeat music to use, and go with the rhythm.

Kyle, that's a kick butt idea. I myself use the firefly theme but dint think about a container for the fireflies. Great idea

Your most welcome. The jar helps tie it all in, especially if your trying to really tell a story and give that experience to the audience your performing for.

I find when I am trying to tell a story or experience, I like to use several props that can be assocuated with everyday objects. This helps make the story complete and helps the audience relate more to it.
