If you are performing for kids and/or families, I would pass on the spike idea. My feeling is that the Tenyo version does not feel dangerous prop wise and that is a good way to go. One does not need scary props to entertain, especially kids and families.

Bill Taylor's original design for the cylinder has a diamond shaped hole, rather than a round hole like the Owen-made version. The advantage of the diamond shaped hole is that it is easier for a person with average DIY skills to make a clean cut than a round hole. On a magic collector's group on Facebook I saw this rare square-shaped tube version of 'Turkish Turmoil' (U.F. Grant/MAK Magic). I don't know how long this version was available, but I had never seen one before. (the stencil design on it shows up on several other Grant/MAK props)
