Hi everyone,
So Im new-ish to the whole magic shopping online thing but I have been performing for some time. I recently came across the ability to push my skills higher and I have been doing some parlour and stage performances and I want to add something not many people have seen (In Australia, not many people have heard of Pen and Teller for example) So I have been lusting over David Regal's Linking Finger Ring project and recently I have seen Shin Lim release Dream Act. My hope is to see what kind of recomendations I could get from this forum because I have a couple of criteria. I perform mainly close up but moving onto the stage. My Theme of my stage show is "Teaching the audience to lie" (not the name, just the theme) and while I love both effects, is Shin Lim's Dream act difficult? I would say I can do most sleights, I just cannot for the life of me do a back palm - some sleights are just beyond my abilities. Thanks much. |

My recommendation is the Linking Finger Rings. An amazing effect with audience involvement and their own rings.I don't know how this fits with teaching them to lie though.

To answer your question, yes Shin Lim act is very difficult to learn. That is why he won, he as been doing it for years.
The Koran/Himber Linking Finger rings is not a close-up trick, not that you can't link say, two rings close up, but, no one ahs come up with an excellent switch move for close-up performance. I am just saying, linking 2 rings together and unlinking them in a close up situation is not very mystical and puzzling without further cancellation of method for the spectators watching, or participating. With the three linking finger rings, much depends on the size audience, handling, and routine, and always thinking ahead. |

Thanks so much for the responses
Chappelly: I can always come up with some patter - I like teaching the audience about how psychics and faith healers do their tricks and then doing it the magician way to point out that I have been able to do something they KNOW is impossible but only because I told them I was going to lie. Bill Hegbli: Thanks for the response! I recognise its not for close up so why I plan on moving most of my act to stage and possibly parlour. My hope is that I can use one of these effects as part of my main stage act but I am also hoping to find similar stage routines as most of my repertoire is close up with cards and coins. I have some effects I learned from Banachek that I plan on using as my main act and I just wanted to add a bit more stage dedicated effects to put my show together. Thankyou - If there are any other suggestions other than the two I mentioned, don't hesitate to suggest! I am happy to learn as I know I am not the most skilled magician. |
