Hmm, I don't know it looks like he is turning sections of it to me. Both at the beginning and while behind his back. Not a lot but enough to achieve the desired result I suppose.

Can anyone tell me how many phases are in Greg's routine and exactly what each effect is?
Every description I've seen is pretty vague. I know one phase is matching a specs cube and then you solve it behind your back. Anything else?
Not implying that's not enough, just curious what the possibilities are.

Tempted to take advantage of the lower pricing but I've never spent that amount on something I know so little about, and not much time left to find out.
Greg puts out great stuff but let's face it, not everything suits everybody.

Hi Videoman,

The first demo showed a lot more but now its private. The first phase is handing a spec a cube and having them mix it. You take that cube back and solve it in 10 seconds behind your back. THis is what the spec sees I gather.

The second phase is having them mix that solved cube again and you retrieve a second cube and mix it behind your back. The cubes match. I have read just about every post about this from eye witness accounts here, facebook etc. Magicians who have seen him do this live are in awe. Everyone of them from ones who have seen and I have bugged.

Hope that helps.

It would be great if we see Steve use Rubicon in upcoming performances.

Gentlemen,

First, sorry for the late reply since I am out of the country and crazy super busy.

Second, I am even more sorry that Rubicon will be delayed due to a flaw in one of the custom-made components. But, if I had to look for a silver lining in this detainment and extra expense, it's that the gimmick will be even better on the second round.

So far, the understanding and support has been overwhelming from the pre-purchasers. I'm quite sure that you will thank me later for not settling for "good enough" as I am making Rubicon perfect for my own stringent standards.

Regarding some of the other questions here on The Café:

1) The $250 pre-sale price expires on August 1st to honor those who made an early purchase.
2) No, the stickers were fine; it was a problem with the gimmick.
3) The stickers, for those concerned, look perfectly natural.
4) I don't want to provide a hard deadline date for completion, as my goal is to make Rubicon PERFECT. That said, I'm expecting mid-September.
5) With all of the working parts and packaging, there is only one thing left and it gets shipped off immediately upon arrival.
6) For the one-handed solve, it's hard to tell on video, but is quite obvious in person, that the blocks are being rotated just like a real cube - because it is a real cube!
7) I am so confident that you will LOVE this as much as me, that there is a full one month guarantee if anyone is dissatisfied with the product in any way.
7) As far as degree of difficulty, here is my latest quote from the internationally famous Cube Freak himself: "With Greg's gimmick, you can learn in ten minutes what took me two years to perfect." - Steven Brundage

I will keep everyone apprised of my progress in the ensuing weeks.

The part that hurts so much is that I will not have Rubicon for Magic Live, or my big Asian tour AND I secured the back cover of Magic Magazine for this month!!

Grrrrrrr!

Again, thanks for your patience and understanding!!!

Grrrrrrregory

PS Strong opinions are perfectly fine, but there is one cynic here on the Café that I wish would think more positive and upbeat as you're in good hands. : )

That's 46 days till shipment. Smile I'm sure it'll be worth the wait though.

My heads fuzzy with maths, but I'm not sure how you are getting 46 days based on decomposed statement, I get 32, even if you added on 48 hrs it would only be 34, but there is no reason to add on the 48 hrs.

but it feels like some sort of logic puzzle Smile

Regarding GW 's point #6 The one handed solve. I went back to watch the video
and he is correct the cube sections move, it's just hard to see on the video.
Sorry for adding any confusion to the thread.

Thank you, that link works and is very helpful. I'm still on the fence about whether to order this or not. Not because I don't think it's a great effect but just questioning if I'll get enough use out of it to justify the cost since I don't get a chance to perform a lot. It is great though. A few more hours left to decide.

On the onset I would like to clarify that I might sound a bit harsh and curt in this post of mine. However that's not my intention, but if one so feels I sincerely apologize for the same.

Steven Brundage is an enthusiastic young man who brought to the magic community Cube3 flowed by his recent At the Table Live Lecture video. Hence keeping in mind his interest in magic, I hope he knows and understands exactly what he has said, what he wants to convey and what his above quoted statement actually implies. I presume that Steven made the statement after knowing Rubicon's method.

I shall only compare one effect of Rubicon i.e. Phase-2 performance with that of Steven Brundage's Phase-2 performance on AGT (You can see it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_O2XYx9spE ).

The end results of both the effects are the same, i.e. the performer matches his cube exactly with that of the spectators mixed cube. However the main difference lies in the methods adopted to achieve the effect. Both the methods are totally different to the best of my knowledge and understanding after watching the two performances . In one case (i.e. Rubicon) a gimmick is involved, whereas in the other (i.e. Steven's effect) a clever, very well thought out s****h is involved which is also coupled with playing with human psychology. I would not like to further elaborate as this might cause exposure. OK, said that and coming straight to the point:-

1. In Rubicon, if performed as seen in the full performance video put up earlier, the two cubes (IMO) cannot be laid on the table for examination. This, once again IMO is the WEAKEST part of the effect.

2. In Steven's method both the cubes can be laid on the table for examination. And this, IMO, is the STRONGEST part of the effect.

You will agree that in both the above cases, Phase-2's are considered to be the strongest part in the whole two phase routine/performance. Hence for Steven to quote that what took him two years to perfect can be learned in ten minutes is utterly out of context.

Just MY thoughts.

Thank you.

Smile

Since 30 minutes had passed I could not edit my above post. Hence:-

Steven's two years is intense practice and skill, whereas Rubicon need only a gimmick - one can be examnined and the other can not.

They are not only different in method, but also in what the audience perceives.

Cube3 (or is it CubeFX...not sure!): After having a cube mixed, and having some fun with the bag, you "study" the cube (if you want), and then match the other cube to it.
It could be magic, but it could also be, "wow, this guy is a genius...I mixed up a cube, he looked at it for a moment, and then he twisted his cube to match mine!"

RUBICON: "we both mixed up cubes behind our back and when we brought them out they matched!" That's a different effect... but VERY magical.

I think they are both great. I own CubeFX, Cube3, and I ordered RUBICON. I can't wait to start using it!

Nice info Tim, thanks. Well, the price at 3 am CST still shows $250. Guess there is still time....
