The last poem was so well received, I thought I'd share another.

Bon Voyage!

There is a place beyond the veil,
‘Tween the Living and the Dead.
Many a myth recorded,
Many a tale been said.

The Dead collect upon the shore,
Waiting their ride across the river.
And Charon is the ferryman’s name,
Their souls he will deliver.

The River Styx is a cold dark place,
Not a pleasant voyage to make.
And the trip requires a boarding price,
The ferryman’s toll they must take.

The Living place coins upon the dead,
According to their budget.
So the Dead can arrive in Hades to rest,
Awaiting their final judgment.

If a soul arrives without the price,
To board the underground vessel.
For one-hundred years their soul must roam,
Along the banks and trestle.

So, at your Wake we talked about this.
And decided to take a collection.
Everyone chipped in and we all felt relieved,
Someone had the Styx recollection.

Your fare is paid, your trip assured,
So now, you’re out of the rut.
And all of us, for the next hundred years,
Don’t have to put up with your sorry butt.

Bon Voyage!

Beautifully done Willie! Reminds me of this poem:

EULOGY - by Ray O'Bannon

we are gathered here together 'round this simple pinewood box
and a word about it's contents must be said
he was not a charming fellow and he hadn't any friends
though he's grown much less repulsive since he's dead

he never did a simple act of kindness in his life
and a crumby wretch more vile could not be found
he was altogether ghastly and we really can't be blamed
if we're smiling as we plant him in the ground

we should like to say how bad we feel
how deeply grim and such
but in truth we didn't ever really
like him very much

we doubt he had a conscience, he was heartless as a rock
and we've never seen a man so very small
if he winds up pushing daiseys up then that would be the first time
that he's ever done us any good at all
we've never seen a bigger creep, that's why the coffin's extra cheap
we can't be sure he had a soul to save
but the few bills in his wallet and his jewelry may suffice
to repay the chaps who've had to dig his grave

we should like to say how bad we feel
how deeply grim and such
but in truth we didn't ever really
like him very much

didn't ever, really ever like him very much

Thanks, old friend, for making us smile. A smile that lasts after life.

I always try to put a smile on the cadaver's face. You're welcome.

A beginning is much like an ending
the time it takes to breathe out
is the same to breathe in
and life is breath-taking
and love is breath-giving
and all things in between
are what create the beating of the heart
