In the past, Vanishing Inc posted a 5 star review of Peter Turner's STEM from someone who clearly hadn't seen it. When I contacted VI, they didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
As you can see, this issue isn't limited to penguin. |

I purchased many musical recordings which were advertised as live, but the fact that I've bought them from FYI or Amazon or elsewhere on records, tapes, dvds etc. provides no fog as to whether or not I am listening to a performance happening at the time I listen to it. And of course, we know that "live" in the music world just means not recorded in the studio - it has nothing to do with when the purchaser listens to it. Nice red herring. Is there some problem with advertising them as prerecorded streamed events rather than live? I see the fog clearing. |

I was disappointed that you don't get to see the full live performance. Only 2 clips from the performance were used in the lecture. These were by far the best bits.
The rest of the lecture was fun. Tom is great to watch. But I just felt something was missing. Performers like Tom need to be seen working a crowd to really learn about what they do and how they do it. Anyone who spotted the toilet paper trick on the trailer will be disappointed as you don't get to see this performed. I know it's a $200 trick, but why hint at it if you're not gonna at least show the performance of it. No fork/spoon in pocket trick either. Overall it was good. And I enjoyed it. Oh, one thing that did annoy me a little was the thread work is very similar to some of Gaetan Bloom's stuff. Was surprised that after the brief mention of theft of work that there was no credit given. Especially as Gaetan explains it on his Penguin lecture. The only difference to one of the pieces was Tom used beer mats where Gaetan uses playing cards. Other than that oversight it's good. Could've been great.
