Any multi-level marketing enthusiasts here? I know for some this can be a spare time thing and I am just curious if anyone here
has any experience in the multi-level marketing (MLM) field. If so maybe we could share some tips for growing the business. This seems to be a great spare time enterprise for some. I’m open to chatting about any of the spare time business opportunities. PM me if you like. Tom

Anything that emphasizes recruiting others as much as, or more than, it emphasizes selling the actual product, should probably be avoided, in my opinion. But hey, knock yourself out. What product are you interested in pursuing?

Ron, I am already involved with a company, not looking, just curious if any others here are doing the same.
For some it’s like a hobby and they enjoy sharing marketing ideas. I agree that the products are important. But the whole idea is to have a lot of people selling a little. Tons of products are being sold this way. Tom

I would be curious the name of the company so we can check it out And the point is that practically no products are being sold that way.

Danny that article is a joke. Network marketing will always have it's critics. But it's a proven, legal, respectable business model
that will be here for a long time to come. Those who don’t know what they are talking about think all direct selling companies are scams. Often labeled that because it is true that many don't make money doing it, therefore the excuse is it is a scam. It's hard work, and not a lot of folks out there like doing that. In 1979 a landmark case, FTC vs Amway, concluded that multi-level marketing (MLM), or Network Marketing as some call it, was a legitimate business opportunity and not a pyramid scheme. Warren Buffet owns three direct sales companies. Howard Schultz, founder of Starbucks, owns one, and I could go on and on….. Tom

What's the financial disclosure for your company? Every MLM must provide one.
MLM can be a legit deal. I've friends that sell Mary Kay and like it. But many MLM's border on pyramid schemes. If the majority of revenue comes from enrolling new reps, then it's a pyramid scheme. If majority of revenue comes from actual selling of goods or service, it can be a good business.

I agree if people are being paid to simply enroll others it is a pyramid scheme.
I've been with several MLM companies over the years but I’ve never worked with one that paid out a penny for enrolling others. Those kind don’t stay around long. Tom

What are the name of those companies and the one you seem to like now?
Seems as if you are a true believer.

Danny, I didn’t start the topic to promote my company or to recruit distributors here.
Just curious if others had ever tried network marketing. Many do work it in their spare time like a hobby and enjoy talking about the industry. Of course I am a believer. Tom

Even to us high-schoolers, the scheme did not 'smell' legitimate. It turns out that Koscot was the poster child for these MLM-based pyramid schemes. I am curious about your statement that you have worked with several MLM companies over the years. What have your experiences been? Have you profited from the sale of the companies' goods or services? Do you move from one company to another, or do you work with several at once? A variety of issues continue to arise around these kinds of entities, and I am wondering whether they are being treated fairly. As an example, Amway has been accused or rumored to be (i) a pyramid scheme, (ii) a cult, and (iii) an unfair competitor (e.g., originator of the Proctor and Gamble "Satanism" rumor) and has been the defendant in numerous law suits brought by its own distributors alleging that Amway misrepresents the potential earnings attributable to product sales alone. As you might imagine, many view MLM companies with great skepticism. |

I tried Amway. I didn't like it. It may be legal, but it seems to me any business that emphasises recruiting other people as opposed to selling the product is questionable. (Having said that, Amway products were very good quality.)

That's actually a common ploy in MLM: leaving out bits of information to increase curiously and draw one deeper into the web....

Sure you can ask, but "due diligence"? "Ploy to draw you deeper into the web"? Seriously?

Ed, Amway does have some great products, and they sell more products through distributors and word of mouth than they would off the shelves in stores.
0pus, Yes many do view MLM companies with great skepticism but that mainly comes from not understanding exactly how this kind of marketing works. And of course the idea of making a lot of money will attract dishonest people. But then there are dishonest people doing all kinds of business, not to mention the used car salespeople. Yes I remember Koscot too. Never got into it but did hear about it from a friend in the 70’s. Later on in life I got to know the founder of Koscot, Glenn Turner, and found out that during the 70’s there were no laws for the MLM industry. He spent millions of dollars trying to get the government to tell him how to operate legally but failed. Later in the late 70’s Amway came along and forced the government to write the laws that exist today. Glenn Turner has had several books written about him. Many of the top motivational speakers learned a lot from him. Not the best of health, but he is still alive today living in Florida. I tried Amway in the early eighties but didn’t stick with it. Later I had great success with a similar company that went out of business after a few years. Make some good money with a couple of other companies, but MLM has always been a spare time thing for me. Over the years I have owned and managed several brick and mortar businesses at once and have been called a workaholic. To me, work is fun. Now that I am retired, (and bored lol) I am in it again and not for the money but because I have always loved the challenge and excitement of reaching goals. Danny, I didn’t come here looking to recruit anybody, to sell anything, nor am I here to be told I can’t do something that I am already doing. My only reason for posting was to connect with like minds. A longshot I knew, but hey you never know. And who knows somebody may PM me, we get hooked up and we both make a lot of money. Tom

Funny how the supposed legitimate companies you prattle on about say EXACTLY the same thing as the scams.
