Hi My spooky chums,
Has anyone tried to create old newspaper clippings before. The finished clipping will probably end up being a photocopy to avoid having to get hold of old newspaper stock. But I'm thinking more typeface and wording for the late Victorian era. I have the dressing such as period adverts and my trusty Mac book pro. The main problem is trying to use the correct language for the reporting of the time. The newspaper story is about the court case of a murder. Any tips would be great. (I have some newspapers of the time but no reporting of murders). Thanks for your time Louis |

Look for: 1) 'Orrible Murder: Victorian Crime and Passion by Leonard De Vries
or 2) A Vast Chronicle of Murders Suicides Crimes and Oddities 1891 As Preserved in an Old Scrapbook, by Charlie Crowell (not a book per se, just poorly zeroxed newspaper clippings with no other text). Either of these should give you what you want. |

Thank you for your very kind offer Prof. I would love that. I will send it to you went finished if that's ok.
It's quite funny I was re-listening to you on seanceandspookshows last night as I had eye strain and the TV was too bright, reading and music were also out, so I sat quietly and had another listen to my Favs. A very enjoyable evening. Thank you. |

Standard newsprint stock is 45gsm but anything up to 70gsm could be used. I have sometimes used old A1 flip charts and cut them down to A4 to go through the laser printer. Soak in a little water based woodstain (not tea), 4 mins in the oven, press under some books, finish with dulling spray, crumple and crease and bosh! Old clippings.
Victorian era copy is great, study it and you'll soon get the hang of it. It's quite flowery! They weren't fans of full stops and used as many superlatives as they could fit in. Hope it helps. Nick
