If you have never attended "The Gathering of the Magi" you are missing out on one of the best magic conventions around.
Think family. This started out as The Inner Circle of Bizarre Magick's Gathering of the Magic. It is the longest running bizarre magick convention. Don't let that scare you. We no longer sacrifice goats. As the popularity of bizarre magick has mellowed, Joe Cabral decided to incorporate mainstream magic into the convention, while still keeping the bizarre faction alive. Friday nights are designated for bizarre magic. Saturday is for more mainstream. This convention has a number of lectures, a bizarre show, a close-up show, a works in progress and THE BEST hospitality suite ever. It's stocked with food and drink and it's the place where the magi gather to talk about magic, methods, theory, family, car problems, you know......to just talk. Everyone is approachable and when magicians come for the first time, they always ask "What took me so long to decide to come here." I found out about the ICBM and started coming at their 5th Gathering of the Magi. I haven't missed one since. It's the one convention I make sure I go to every year. Again, don't be spooked out by the bizarre magick faction. It's really the driving force behind this convention. It's the creative spark that gives this convention some of the most unique magic that you will ever witness. So come on out. Give it a try if you've never been to it. You'll be hooked just like the others. This year LOSANDER is the guest of honor. Todd Robbins will also be in attendance. I have been flying out from the UK to this event since 2006 - my son Adrian since 2010 - we wouldn't miss it!
Look out for something special at the Midnight Matinee each evening in the Hospitality Suite - William Warlock's Appointment With Fear! - Will YOU play "The Ferryman's Game"?

If you're a hobbyist looking to add to your performance time. There are a few opportunities to do that at The Gathering.
First, there is a works in progress that's hosted by Daniel Greenwolf. This is something that was inspired by Jeff McBride's Mystery School. Magicians perform pieces that are not fully polished looking for constructive criticism and feedback. You won't get it written on pieces of paper as they did in Mystery School as time will not allow that. But people that have feedback for you will seek you out and those you ask will be willing to offer some as well. NOTE: This is performed in the big ballroom. And then there is the special midnight offering of William Warlock's Appointment With Fear! This takes place in the hospitality suite at midnight. It's like performing in your living room for friends. If this setting appeals to you moreso than the big ballroom, seek out Leslie Melville for a spot on the lineup. If you've never been to The Gathering, you should check it out.

I'm planning to go this year. I've been to almost 20 of these and they are always a great time. If you love Bizarre Magick, you'll feel right at home. If you like mainstream magic, you'll still feel right a home. This is ALWAYS the highlight of my year!

A lot of people know Losander from his floating tables.
He has some remarkable effects with IT. Come to The Gathering and learn from the master.

I've never seen anyone yet who has more grace and control with floating large and apparently heavy objects than Losander. He has put in the time to make these effects really ascend to be something remembered. Even when one knows the secret, it's still difficult not to be mesmerized by his elegance.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

David, looking forward to meeting you.
Make sure you come up to the hospitality suite and meet your new friends. I'll be the evil guy in the room.

I will take you up on that and will be dropping in on the hospitality suite.
Are you suggesting that there will only be one evil looking guy?? |

Just a reminder - if you plan on attending The Gathering this year, get your registrations in now.
Joe needs to give the hotel the dinner count otherwise you get something by default, or maybe even no dinner. http://www.icbmmagick.com/ It's going to be a great convention with Losander, Meir Yedid, Todd Robbins, Leslie Melville, etc.

Back home and recovering from another exhilarating few days in Connecticut attending the 25th. Anniversary Gathering of the ICBM. It has become one of my most looked forward to events of the year and never disappoints.
It was a delight to meet Tom Crecelius, whom I have only known through occasional correspondences - I bought his Toad House some years ago and had pleasure in using it on my story walks. this time I came away with a Lota Pot and look forward to exercising my brain in devising a routine for its use! Meir Yedid was a performer I had seen a number of times at UK Conventions and had never met. He too, in addition to showing amazing skills, proved to be charming company. Good also to meet Rolando Santos for the first time and chat to a couple of new faces, Robert Pocious and David ? (sorry David I forget your surname) from Toronto. This year's 'Honoree', Dirk Losander returned following a number of years away – he was a regular participant in the first few years of my attendances. He amazed us all with his classy anti-gravitational performing abilities. At the conclusion of the event, he 'floated' off to Paris (France)! Now that IS magic! We had a new dealer this year; Ron Diamond of Ronjo Magic and he had quite an array of quality material. We are hoping to re-acquaint with him at Blackpool in a couple of months. Good to see Marlene Clarke in attendance after too many absent years! I hope she enjoyed herself enough to enter the 2017 dates into her diary – we might even persuade her to perform! My personal thanks to those who appeared in William Warlock's Midnight Matinee - “An Appointment With Fear!” - Tom Smith, Daniel Greenwolf, CJ.May, S.Patrick Toman, Joe Cabral, Professor Rem, EvilDan and Scott Payne. A big 'Thank you!' to Bob Hale, his family and friends for their kind welcome and hospitality on Sunday afternoon. And to Joe Cabral for the transport and companionship on Sunday and Monday. Finally thanks again to my pal Gil Earl for again collecting Adrian and me from the airport and driving us in heavy traffic to the hotel. I shall refrain from trying to name the regulars who we see every year – I would be bound to omit somebody and I don't want to do that! We love you all and you know who you are. It is this friendship and camaraderie that we experience each year that encourages us both to make the 3,500 mile journey to this wonderful event – and God willing, we will be back in 2017! William Warlock tells me he is already working on some nasty stories (one about a blood-letting ghost!) for the midnight hour! Thanksgiving is near so both Adrian and I wish you all a Happy Holiday! Leslie Melville Stories......? ......That's telling!

The 2016 Gathering of the Magi was just awesome, plain and simple. The number of very neat, cool, and informative artists that attend and share their stories, techniques, and help with your own versions is unlike anything you will ever experience in your life. Many thanks to Joe Cabral, to Evil Dan, Daniel Greenwolf, Leslie Melville, Losander, Mier Yedid, and so very many others that helped make this so wonderful. Rolando, myself, and one other person had the honor of being inducted into the inner circle and we so appreciate this honor. This year's Gathering will NOT be my last. I have found another family I never knew I had.
