Sidewalkperformers was a site that for some 10 years had contributions from Jimmy Talksalot, myself, and others.
The past couple of years contributions dropped and now I went there today and found the following message: "sidewalkperformers.freeforums.org was removed for inactivity on Aug 10, 2016." It joins Danny Hustle's site Busker's Café which Danny closed down about two years back, but left all the posts on for reference, and about 3 months back Danny pulled the plug on that. I went to the site 'performers.net' today, which has not had much activity lately only to get this: "This Account has been suspended. Contact your hosting provider for more information." The first two forums contained a lot of information on street magic, and 'performers.net' was available for any street performer. These closures are part of the changing scene that happens. Things change. The use of mobile phones and their sites such as Facebook help to fill in the communications with other buskers but it seems that buskers will have to fall back more on personal knowledge/associations and word-of-mouth on the street. I appreciate the role of what we are reading here at The Side Walk Shuffle, in The Magic Café. To my knowledge it's the best magic buskers site around. Thank you to those responsible for helping keep this forum running.
The presentation makes the magic.

Danny's site was the best thing going for quite a while but eventually it deteriorated due to the egos of some very prolific posters; basically flooding the site with their crap.
I stopped going a couple years before they shut down, and I wasn't happy about it.

I used to own sidewalkperformers and couldn't keep up with it. Shel Higgens was supposed to take it over but like you said.. Its easy enough to just make a private group on Fb

I 'third' that!
"Ditto. Ditto. Ditto." I read the other sites, as well. There was good information, on them all. What I really like about the Magic Café, though; it's open to all(!). Anybody,...!,.. clue or clueless(!!), can show up, and pitch their poop! And they do!! I remember reading a guy's "second post", telling Gazzo he was loading wrong(!)... 🙃 The 'openness',.... the un-controlled brashness, brillience, b.s., and 'näivität',... it reminds me of the 'open' Streets. I'm full of thanks. Second thought: Why have other sites closed? Is the 'Busking cult' waining? Is it,..was it, the passing thing? Was there a 'Jim Cellini boost'? Are pitches drying up? ,...is the money vanishing? ,...is the market flooded,..? dilluted? Has Street Performing homogenized? What became of everybody? Danny Hustle? (His post here, are a backbone of the really good info here.) Eric Evans? (His experiences and thoughts,....pushed the Sidewalk Shuffle to high levels.) Doug Conn, Jimmytalksalot, Kondini, Chance, Nick W. Arkanda, George Gilbert. Bobby Maverack,... James James. ....sö many more, good ones. [Devious!,....such a great guy! Crazy, Un-predictable,....loved the Streets and Performers,... I miss him.] Sometimes, I had the feeling, folks were a bit thin skinned,... ,..sometimes regarded themselves a bit too 'highly'(?). ((typical Street Performer!)) ,maybe just 'moved on',..? "To What?" ,that's my question?,...! ,....is there anything better, then playing in the Streets?(!),..? {Nö.} ...,my god, it's only 7:24, in the morning(!) "Magic Café,....coffee please." gallagher p.s.: Sö much advise and tipps have been given, through the years; I think we should start telling,.. sharing,.. more 'Tales of the Trails'. One really popular topic is: 'First time out'. ,..i love 'em as well(!). But what I find is missing, is; "After doing this for 12 years now, nothing like THIS ever happened to me before! Listen up,...." ,..... where's that coffee? |

I too very much appreciate the Café. It is one of the only ways I get to talk to other magicians and performers. They simply don't exist in my home town

Gallagher, thanks for calling to mind those contributors,
and thanks, George, for your role in sidewalkperformers. I enjoy reading and making postings, but am also mindful of a mix between writing about busking and being out there working on the streets.
The presentation makes the magic.

I ended up forgetting my password and could never get back into it. Sucks to be gone, but in a way its good that a reset has been made. Start fresh. no more cups and balls discussions. All the info is already out there, right? Lets come up with new ideas for ourselves and the world to enjoy.

Hey Nick,...
made me smile(!). Nice to see you're reading and writing. 😊 . . . . . . . . . . . . . ö. . . . . . . . . . . . . .! I was made curious, by my own remarks, of what some of the folks are up to today; sö, I looked thru bushes, snooped around, and spyed,... un-covered(!) what some of the guys are doing today! (It wasn't easy! ....not everyone has an i-Phone.) yeah, let's see,.. Jimmytalksalot has checked into a Benedictine Monastery, and taken up the 'Vows of Silence'. Devious, has checked into the same monastery,.. and taken up the 'Vow of Celibacy'... hmm,..and that with Jimmy, in the same house(!). Good luck Hombres! Danny Hustle followed a dream, and is into the clothing business. He's invented a pair of underpants, with an "early warning system"(!), for people with Incontinence! He's so sure of the idea, he's marketing them under his own name(!). ,...'Better Hustle'. All the best Danny. {i undersand Bobby Maverick, is OUT of the clothing business..} Eric Evans is up and at 'em again. He's become a dancer instructor(!). Currently working with Britney Spears and her chorus line... Gaddy, MARRIED Britney Spears!, after his marriage with Justin Bieber was annulled, ...due to lack of children. George Gilbert is still into Magic(!), albeit, on a bigger scale! He headed out to Hollywood(!) and got himself a part, in the new filming of,.. The Wizard of Oz! ,...as a Munchkin. It's a small roll,. but a big hat. He took his buddy JoeJoe, out to Hollywood, with him. JoeJoe was turned down for the roll of Dorothy,.. but has a good shot at the Scarecrow,.. or Toto. Chance, was easy to track down. He picked up a job on Donald Trump's team! ,...'Adviser for Hair-styling'. Charlie Capers has a similar job, in the Hilliary Clinton 'Make-up' Department,... (i think it's going to take more then a great Magician to.......) Nick Nicolas is working Cruise Ships! (True) ,..they're tying him to the front of ships, to ward off sharks, ..and mermaids. Ken Kondini is off again, with another Freak Show! ,.. playing the palaces and castles of noble England. This time, without Zbits,.. but with Mario Morris behind glass(!). Scare the money out of 'em Ken! Kozmo is a bit more ellusive. ,..hard to find anything! BUT, I did read, in an upper-state NY newspaper; an un-proportionally high number, of elderly women, have complained, of being pinched in the bottom(!), while walking thru the Hawaiian-shirt department, of the local Walmart,... hmmm? Maybe Ed Rhodes could check that out for us.... Now folks, I can't confirm ANYTHING. So don't take anything too serious,,. except for that last bit. keeping trying, gallagher |

I think what happens with sites is they fail to backup the database. Then all is lost...and you can't even login anymore.

Just saw this after a million years -while looking for posts about vests with built in topits, of all things...
Sadly, since Mz. B also failed to provide a male heir to the Gad-stonbury treasure (not thru lack of trying I can assure you hur hur hurrrr), sadly I had to cut my losses, pull a quick 'Henry the 8th' on Our Lady of the Holy Spearit and get back into busking. My lineage now continues as far as my next hat. Quote: On Aug 30, 2016, gallagher wrote:

"I prefer the happy man, at my table, as guest.
The man who can take himself easily, in jest. For then I dine, in pleasure, with the cream of the best." J.W. v Goethe I have to admitt Gaddy, going back and reading some of my scribbles... I sometime duck my head back under the pillow(!). This original Thread, however, it really emphasizes, to me, what's so nice,....'for me', about 'the Café'. I can have my fun. ...and I believe others can, as well. It's a shadow, under a tree,...along a nice boulevard. Maybe,..this is why,...it's still here(?). Anyways,...good luck with the offspring. ...you might want to try 'it', WITHOUT a Thumb-tip(?). ......just a thought. : ) gallagher |
