This may be completely obvious to most of you, but here is a little tip on how to get opportunities to perform close-up material. Without any ambushing.
At the end of any stage perfomance I do, I say: "Thank you all very much. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to all of your thoughts... But if you want to play some more mind games with me, or want to have your mind read - just approach me after the show and I will be happy to show you something." What this does: You will get several people coming up to you. You don't have to force a performance on somebody. They are already on your side. It really works well for me maybe some of you also like this idea. Of course, often people will ask anyway, but it happens much more often, if you simply mention this possibility to them. |

I am still at a stage where I almost exclusively perform at charity events, open mic nights and mixed comedy shows. There are a lot of opportunities, if you just want to get flight time. Paid gigs is a whole other story...

Alexxander -- I saw Banachek do his college show years ago, and afterward several people came up to talk with him (not invited as I recall, just wanting to say they loved the show or whatever).
He did Psychokinetic Time for a group of about 5 people, who were thrilled with the close-up and apparently impromptu feat. Thanks for the idea to actually invite people to come up after the show. |
