Instead of "Better" let's try "Other" so we don't have to have the monthly "My guy is better than your guy war"
No particular order and you can do a search for each one and find people's pro/con opinions. Johnson Products http://johnsonmagicproducts.com/shop/index.php Tango (carried by most shops) Sterling (carried by many shops) not sure if still in business Mark Mason / Bob Swadling http://www.jbtvusa.com/index.php Todd Lassen https://coolotis.wordpress.com/ http://www.toddlassen.com/ Jamie Schoolcraft http://coingaffs.com/ Roy Kueppers http://www.roykueppers.com/ Martinka http://www.martinka.com/martinka-coin-club/ There are many more who manufacture gaffs but this is a good start. Some are less expensive (Tango) some are medium but "workers gaffs" and some are expensive works of art (Lassen, Schoolcraft). It's one of those items that you kind of get what you pay for. There are several others who carry coin gaffs that don't make them too. You just have to go site to site to see what gaffs they carry.

Yes Johnson is the most reliable and
the best clad dollars for the buck had their cig through quarter for about 25 years. only because I lost it did it no longer serve me. countless miracle moments with just that coin. I just carried the thing in my pocket how it worked flawlessly and for that long, go figure. |

Their cig through quarter is great! Also have had mine for about that time. Back then I wish I would have purchased two each of everything they made!

Okay, I've spent about three hours going thru threads on here and various other websites selling flipper coins and trying to figure out what would be the best one(s) to get. I currently have a regular (non-gravity and non-pro) flipper and very much want and need a gravity one. I'm trying to wrap my head around this PRO designation and what is meant when they state (taken from Roy Kuepper's website in describing his "pro" line of flippers), "The Pro Gravity Flipper has an internal groove system, where there is no visible groove from the outer edge of the insert coin."
Okay, I must be having a brain fart or something here because I can't quite understand what the heck that sentence is saying. Now I have a basic flipper coin, so I understand the parts or can see them on my coin, but I'm just not getting what this means or how it would look. If anyone can help out a poor old brain-farted guy understand, please do so. If you need to PM me to prevent any reveals, that would be great. As I stated, I have a basic (no wait...) a magnetic flipper coin that is not pro and not gravity. Gravity I understand and need, but the pro part is where I'm needing the help. THANKS! And I think I'm going to go with a JB Magic Next Generation Flipper or their Double Deception Deluxe Half, although those are both half-dollar sized and my other coins (expanded shell, slippery expanded, super expanded, and magnetic flipper coin) are all Eisenhower dollars. So, I've either got to go with Roy or Tango for a gravity flipper OR get me a whole set of half-dollar (Kennedy) gaff coins, too. Far too many choices with optional options of varying degrees. What the heck, I'll probably just go with having a set of each (Kennedy + Eisenhower). Hey, didn't a Kennedy marry an Eisenhower? Wasn't Eisenhower Republican and Kennedy a Democrat? Didn't Nixon have a connection to each (Vice President under Eisenhower and opponent of Kennedy's for the 1960 presidency)? And what does this have to do with gaffed coins? Nothing... Just interestingly random thoughts...

Okay, I might be answering my own question, because as I read that statement again, "The Pro Gravity Flipper has an internal groove system, where there is no visible groove from the outer edge of the insert coin," I'm thinking that I'm maybe making it more complicated than it really needs to be or that I'm thinking thru the details too much. Is this just a fancy way of saying, "You can't hardly see any line where it splits apart?"

Take a normal coin. Look at the edge (not the face). It's milled, and looks otherwise unblemished.
Now take your flipper? Look a it closed, and the edge of the coin. It looks normal, right? Like a regular coin? Not open it. Look at the same edge, but on the insert. Notice how if you're looking at it this way (edge-on) you can see a groove for the band? That's the bit that makes it non-pro. On a "pro" version, the edge of the insert looks normal, and you can't see the band, because the band is more hidden. Some versions will have this part milled, too (as opposed to smooth), so it'll look even more like a real coin. Whether or not there's a line on the face has more to do with the skill of the gaffer, and how close they can make the tolerances. Now reread the description: "The Pro Gravity Flipper has an internal groove system, where there is no visible groove from the outer edge of the insert coin." Does it make more sense now? You were both making it more complicated than it needed to be *and* thinking too hard.

Hello Johnny
I invented the internal system for the folding coins putting inside the coin a elastic thread, some year ago I made the same with Flipper coins, the Pro system we sell, is so much better as the traditional rubber band system. |

Sasco and Martinka also had products that used an internal approach...
Sasco manufactured and sold an internal model folding coin in the 1980s and possibly earlier (made with a ] and insert). We have an example and also the original technical drawings for it. It was called the "Ultimate Folding 50 Cents" and was based on their flipper. Martinka also made a folding coin in the 1800s without a groove. The approach was entirely different as they used only one coin to produce the gimmick. Amazing to think they pulled this off over 100 years ago. We have an original example in the collection. Ted |

I'm thinking now that I never saw a similar system as mine before, but of course every coin manufacturer could have this idea in his factory. But I insist I never saw somthing similar before

It is a post entitled "Tango", after all, it makes sense he'd come read it to see what the contents were. If you saw a thread "countrymaven", would you read it?
The first post also makes a bold statement, which Poof Daddy addresses very well. |
