The two best I've ever seen are Tabary's rope routine and one I saw many years ago where the magician pulled a shoelace through his neck. I know a number of versions of rope though neck/body, but this one really fooled me. He yanked it straight through. No extra rope tucked in, no tying it around the neck, hitches or anything. Just straight through. It looked just like Pavel's through neck but this was a single examinable shoelace. Anybody have any idea what this might be, I've been looking ever since?

Best teacher/video is Tabary.

I can think of two method for above effect:

Small sliding beads at each ends of rope and the second one is "Reel". The reel method is MORE visual and impressive and the workings are same as "Silk Thru Microphone Stand".

I like Shoot Ogawa's rope routine which comes on his lecture notes (including a bunch of matrix tricks and some AMAZING card effects that only he could pull off). His routine is similar to the French magician who appeared on World's Greatest Magic 4 (BEST ROPE ROUTINE EVER, THAT GUY ROCKED). My version is a cross between both of theirs.

Samuel,

Dollar for dollar, pound for pound, IMHO, I think the Daryl rope videos offer the most rope material. It is extensive in the amount of material covered, it is very well presented and Daryl is an excellent instructor.

I believe that this material is now available on DVD. If so, this will be a killer set of videos because of the inherent superiority of the DVD "menuing system" that is not available on VHS tapes.

Where can someone learn Dave Williamson's Rope Routine?

Therntier,

The effect is called "Ring and Rope" and is on Williamson´s video tape "Dave 2." Hard to come by. I found it through a patient, extensive search here on the Magic Café (actually found two!). It´s a wonderful tape and R&R is a GREAT and funny routine.

Good luck.

In my prior post, I forgot to mention that I just saw a "performance only" by Richard Sanders of his version of Professor's Nightmare; he calls it "Three Ropes and a Baby." It is a dynamite effect and has lots of great visual displays. Much more so than the traditional Professor's Nightmare. Think of it as Professor's Nightmare on steroids.

You can read the description at http://www.camirandmagic.com/rt_030.html

A great routine.

I second Three Ropes and a Baby. It is the only rope routine I do, and since it is multi-phased, you can stop it at any point you need to. Three ungimmicked pieces of rope and a couple of weeks of practice is all you need. I do not need any other rope routines with this in my arsenal. Thumbs up!

This has been discussed so many times before.

The most popular have been Tabary, Daryl, Pavel... to name a few.

My vote would go to Dan Garrett's Fautus Ring routine. I have used it for many years; it is both deceptive and memorable.

Daryl’s tapes/DVDs are great! One trick I like that has not been mentioned is on Daryl’s tape (I think it's a Pavel effect): The Jumping Knot of Pakistan.
Magically,
