Hey guys I'm curious if anyone can help me with card spliting and create split cards. What glue to use? Should the middle of the card be kept? The spliting part is simple its putting the pieces back together that causes the issue!
My youtube channel check it out its magic.
im not great but getting better.

I've got both of these and highly recommend them.

There's also Split Session from Blake Vogt, but I would not waste my time with those.

I have been making my own gaffs for many years and I agree that both of those full length DVD's are great starts but the Blake Vogt downloads are a couple of the best I have seen when it comes to "splitting" I just wish he would have done a full length DVD.

Glue is a matter of preference and playing around till you see what works best for you and for what you are making. Rubber Cement is most common, stick glues work and DMT when you want to really go all in as far as cost and skills. (Best bet is to play with some for a while but buy a few from some of the full time gaffers on here if you need one now (that is in working / almost fully examinable condition)

Dry mount tissue. You need certain brand and type. (People use it in scrap booking too) it is a paper adhesive that you put between the layers of your gaff and iron it together. It is not easy by any means but it gives you a crisper finished product. There is a really good book to check out before you get into all of this

And

With a little digging around on the site, he also has a bunch of free ideas on self gagging and making / cutting your own cards even. This is the site that got me started.

LOL that is "Gaffing" as in card gaffs not "gagging" as in new weight loss for magicians Smile

. . .

Dave

I have both of them, also, and likewise recommend them. There are enough differences that having both is worthwhile. The Gary Plants download is so inexpensive, it's almost silly not to add it to your collection.

I'm still learning, but I don't always have "the touch".

Meanwhile, if I need something special, and need to know that it will be an excellent product, I have Marty Grams ("Martini") make it up. For $2 a card, his work is a bargain! Go to http://www.martinismagic.com/Products.html and scroll down to "Hand Made Custom Cards".
I feel more like I do now than I did before.

Not too hard to learn card splitting, may take a deck or two of fails. Once you get hang of it, it goes fast. I recommend the Gaff Factory book from Lybrary.com (linked above) but there are a bunch of tutorials.

I have a question on gluing that wasn't addressed on Marty Grams DVD. I want to create double backers from the advert cards in many decks. I've split the thin back off of one ad card and am planning to just glue it to the face of another ad card that has not been split. If I align the cards as in Marty's DVD and assuming that I flip the split layer onto the normal card will the alignment still be perfect? I'm worried about the thickness discrepancy. On the DVD Marty is gluing split cards to split cards.

Hope my question makes sense!
TIA

Hey guys!!!

This is actually my area of expertise, I've built gaffs and gimmicks for large companies in bulk since 2015.
I run a patreon that I simply Haven't shared information on, due to lack of followers.
I have a lot of techniques that I've personally developed to save money on all of the expensive tools on the market but still offer precision techniques.

Regarding the glue question above, what you're talking about doing you're gonna probably run into more of a "see through" issue rather than a thickness issue in that specific situation. If you want to try to change the thickness, I'd suggest doing a thin split and a the same layer of the second card, simply remove the thin layer of what you're gluing too, make sure you sand the layer slightly on both the thin and thick and then apply them evenly.

If you try to use a full card without splitting it....still sand it down a bit if you're not worried about the "see through" factor and that should help with the thickness factor as well.

Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the advice Terry. I'll remove the face of the other ad card then! My successful splits now amount to about 5! I was a little bit scared to split the face of the other ad card -- if I ruin it then I would be out of ad cards for that deck.
