I found this Antique Leather Bound Velvet Lined Box on eBay, it would be perfect for a spirit glass, I already made my own box so I thought that one of you may be interested. (By the way I don't know the seller)
Look at this on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/162235827631 |

Makes for a good supporting story. I'm thinking of getting a pelican case with foam inside for mine. Not for use during the show but to actually protect it. This looks cool though! Nice find.

I may have posted the ebay link too late , for those who are disappointed about not be able to buy the box , here how I made my box for my spirit glass using a box for wine. I did spend a lot of time to found, modify, aged it , waxed it and engraved it .
I confess that I am very proud of the result. |

Dr SH, did you use foam under the lining to create the place where the glass rests?

Thank you guys, I am glad you like it.
topherhester, you are right, I added 2 cubes of foam above and below the glass and 2 triangles of foam on the side of the glass before to add the lining. The box add some drama before to use the spirit glass but also protect very well the glass and the stick. |

Awesome job Dr SH. That really ramps up the presence of the props. Nice photos too by the way.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Love your box, did you accentuate the grain on the top using tools or was that how it came?

Nunhunter, I first aged the wood with a solution of steel wool and vinegar, this step always accentuate different part of the wood. Depending of the woof it really change the color.

Great tip, thanks. If you ever feel like recording a whole tutorial that would be awesome

Thank you Nunhunter, I don't think you need me to record a tutorial, I really did not invent anything new here. I build the box following the advices I found on different threads in the Café, youtube and Pinterest.
There are different methods and possible steps Here what I did: 1. Remove all metallic part and scratch box with tools 2. Stain with tea (apparently it helps the oxidation of step 4) 3. left dry >24h 4. Stain with mixture of vinegar and steel wool (that I macerated for 24h) 5. left dry >24h 6. finish wood with shellac (probably the most technical steps, you don't want some smear and drips) 7. left dry>24h 8. apply some wood paste wax for extra protection and old finish 9. screw back all the metallic part 10. Add foam and fabric (I used hot glue) Voila |

Really appreciate the extra pointers. Many thanks.
What do you think about adding the authentic smell to aged props? I saw UYD do a scent that's supposed to be like a musty old box. |

Really nice work ... the smell lotion you mention Nunhunter is antiquity and I have used it succesfully in the past to add a bit extra authenticity to the props I make ...though use it sparingly

Very nice box Dr SH.
I have been lucky enough to see Dr SH perform, and I am sure seeing him use the spirit glass would be a treat. |
