To me its not magic it's gross and more akin to the Indian fakirs ,whilst being possibly cruel to the animal.

I don't think it's possible to say it's cruel without knowing what the method is...

Mac King swallows and regurgitates goldfish... It's geeky magic, a definite topic of magic. We don't know truly about the cruelty, unless we know all of the method. After all, there are plenty of magical beheadings of animals going back to ancient Egypt (and Blaine himself also does beheadings of doves). And we all remember his trick of bringing a dead fly back to life. Lynn

Something fishy about that trick, the writing on the card-or maybe the card itself?-isnt the same at the end as the start.Wihch is odd for a"Live" show. Opinions?

LOL. New user fishing for answers..

It is a legitimate routine. It's actually found within a book by Joshua Quinn named Paralies. Card is the same card, same writing.

I really would have loked to see more magic tricks I wa not impressed at all . I had it on at work lay people found it boring . Just my opinion here no much talking a planning about the bullet catch people want to see Magic tricks ! The ring was great with the coat hanger opening trick ,I don't think mentalism played that well on Tv what do you guys think ?

Beyond Magic felt very out of touch with what made Blaine so entertaining, enjoyed his last special Real or Magic a lot more as it had a more organic feel to it.

Definitely not what we have come to expect from Blaine. And I agree with what others have said about some of the mentalism he did not playing well on TV, as well, some of it being "well edited", and I think most of us know what that means ie: the book test on the iphone. The bullet catch was interesting, but again, I have previously enjoyed the build up he usually does to the finale. You obviously know he lives to see another day, so there was little to no suspense here. Maybe the world has gotten tired of seeing him do card tricks to strangers (not me), but I think there certainly could have been more magic loaded into that show. Sorry David, still a fan, just disappointed.

Disappointed as well. I did not need to see him getting a mouth guard at the dentist. More magic would have been nice.

I think overall it was a great show. The hanger trick was a great opener and I loved the "Human Aquarium" segments. Like others, I would have liked to have seen more card tricks, but I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Like others noted, not what I expected/hoped for, but still very good overall.

An hour of my life I'll never get back. I wonder how many impressionable minds will try to emulate the bullet catch with a football mouth-guard and small metal cup. Tsk, tsk! Asi summed it up best; "Why don't you just kill yourself and be done with it?"

Watched it with my wife and although we both wished for more actual "tricks" we definitely enjoyed it overall. He's just a master of getting that reaction and I'll probably never tire of seeing him perform.

Just have to say. I love David. His last special is what has awoken my thirst for magic. And I went back and learned every trick and much much more in the last 2-3 years since. And I would say I'm a pretty solid magician. But I have to agree with most here. The ring on the hanger was killer. But I was left feeling that I was watching a bad porno called "David's mouth and what comes in it". I love how he takes a trick and changes it up a little. The the editing was all over the place for some reason. So I couldn't really feel the build up to the tricks. My favorite trick of the night was the thought of card stuck to the back of the phone. But at the end of the day I loved it.

In general, I believe David is great for our art. Unfortunately, this was not a great example of it. I really liked his first two specials but they have really gone downhill since. I think the worst part is the editing (or just perhaps the layout) of how it was shot. Why do the same effect for three different groups and pan from group to group unless you are hiding the obvious. Also, the trick over the phone with Jennifer Lawrence. I wonder how much prep work the folks on her end of the phone did to make that happen?

As for the many scenes getting his mouth guard fitted, I think they were just to "build up" anticipation for the catch and make it look more like he "WAS" doing it "FOR REAL" . He is pretty darn good at marketing himself. They did do their "CYA disclaimers" of the old "Do Not Try This At Home" but who knows what today's youth are capable of attempting? Hopefully no one gets hurt or killed trying something that stupid.

All in all though, the timing was good. The election is over and we need something entertaining on television. I think it is also great timing for working magicians who are hitting the streets looking to book for the holidays coming up and the various "office parties". A lot of folks would have seen this (or at least heard some folks talking about it) and may be more open to hire a close up magician for their office event.
