Haven't seen this on here, so I though I'd post it!
This is an updated and newly-shot version/description with a lot of added insights from Vogt and Williamson (so they say!). Link: https://store.theory11.com/products/torn......lliamson Physical product only. I emailed Theory11 and they said they might be offering it as download on a later date. Ad copy: ------------------ It’s an effect in the working repertoire of many of magic’s BEST creators and performers: David Blaine, Justin Willman, Dan White, Blake Vogt, and countless more. Torn & Restored Transpo is a devastating card magic routine in which a card is visibly TORN, changed, and RESTORED - all in the spectator’s hands. As performed by David Blaine for Tyra Banks on his ABC television special - watch now! Why is it SO good? It’s consistently one of the hardest hitting effects a spectator will ever witness. Crazy reactions - EVERY single time. Tested and perfected over 30 years, spanning tens of thousands of performances across the globe. It’s multiple phases - each one building on the last. Learn multiple versions of this masterpiece from the creator himself. David Williamson is widely considered to be one of the most entertaining and skilled magicians of our time. Learn the psychology, timing, and presentation from the creator and performer himself. Everything you need to perform the effect is included in the package. Ready to finally get those reactions you always wanted? Look no further. |

Looks really good, but I'm always cautious about ad copy that says 'everything you need to perform is included'. I don't like a lot of arts and crafts effects or those that require refills, it DOES look really good though

I know the effect and I can say that there is no arts and crafts involved.

No arts and crafts. You already have what you need. Theory11 is just supplying a lot of extra of what you need. It lets them raise the price point with more perceived value by including physical product. There are no gimmicks used in David's routine. I've been performing it since he released his book 'Williamson's Wonders' over two decades ago.
This is, hands down, one of the best and most entertaining torn-and-restored card routines you will ever do.
It's all in the reflexes.

Agreed, it's great. I always feel validated having chosen something to be in my sets for all these years when it's made popular again (or for the first time) yet sad as it won't just be the few doing it anymore. Great trick and great magician, David Williamson is a genius to watch. That man's quick wit and intelligence always amazes me.

Does anyone know what differences there are between the version that Dave teaches on Sleight of Dave and his penguin lecture vs. What's taught in this download?
It looks like the only difference is that there are some variations taught or different presentations. Anyone think this is worth picking up if you already know the original version? |

Ken Brooke Magic Place in London England marketed this effect in the 1970's, called Versa Plus. Dave Williamson made it a sleight of hand routine.
https://www.stevensmagic.com/shop/versa-plus-ken-brooke/ Dave has some very good ideas on this trick for his sleight of hand version. If he eliminated some of the top changes and more difficult sleights and misdirection needed it should be worth looking into. |

Torn and Restored Transpo is kinda like Versa-plus in that a transposition happens with a torn card. What's seems better is the added visual card change (shapeshifter) and the restoration of the torn pieces. Additionally, Torn and Restored Transpo doesn't require a gimmick and everything is examinable at the end. That is one of the big negatives to Versa-plus. I personally don't want the heat on an object that just transformed if it is not examinable.
I didn't see a top change in the routine, and whatever sleights there were should be well within the range of most card magicians. Vera plus seems fine but I'd take Torn and Restored Transpo over Versa every time. Quote: On Nov 6, 2016, Bill Hegbli wrote:

If it was a download I would purchase. Paying for postage makes it too expensive.
I still need to perfect other purchased routines anyway. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a download version in the future. |

The ending, is the restore of the playing card, but it a comedy restore. With today's single card restorations you could substitute one of the newer torn and restored cards effect. It is exactly the same routine completely. I did it all time back in the 1970's, I even had the special cards made at for a Bicycle Fan deck, I was using at the time. Guessing, I would say on one of his trips to England, obtained the Ken Brooke Trick, and worked out the sleight of hand method. Nothing wrong with that, as you don't have to buy additional gimmicked cards. I was impressed how Dave Williamson, did not change any of the routine and order of the routine. Very brilliant of him. I love the trick, either version, as it is a really good trick. Nothing like it in magic with so much in the spectator hand magic. If you don't learn it and do it, you will miss out on a fantastic effect. |

You're right Bill, I don't own Versa Plus. I was simply comparing the videos. The two videos that Stevens posted to show Versa Plus don't show a restoration, a selection of a card from the deck or a visual change of the spectators card to the wrong card. No one would have known the two tricks could be done the same way so thanks for enlightening on that.
I guess the trade off then are the required gaffs and examinbility issues. The effect is good enough to warrant the purchase and carrying of gaffs, I'd just think that if an equally strong version could be done sans gaff's, that would be preferable to most. I will say though that in Williamson's version the torn pieces are examinable, which to me makes a big difference. If you look at Vogt's routine on Theory 11's site, the spectators immediately want to check out the torn up pieces in their hand. That is the part that would be problematic in Versa and is the one aspect Williamson's version that I see as a definite improvement over the original version. The trade off is the added sleight of hand needed to make those pieces examinable. Magicians will have to decide if the trade off in sleights versus examinability is worth it. Either way though, I appreciate Ken Brooke and his original routine. It is a great effect no matter which version one performs. Quote: On Nov 8, 2016, Bill Hegbli wrote:

The routine as originally structured by David uses a top change as the main sleight. The version Blaine and Vogt do replaced that with a double, apparently. I personally prefer the top change method.
It's all in the reflexes.

Yes, I learned a lot about a good top change from David Williamson's 1st video, it was and is revolutionary, so causal and something every card magician should study. Talk about invisible and none of the huge swings of the arms, and in your face showing of the card.

So I bought Williamson's Penguin lecture hoping to learn this as well as his rope routine. He gives short shrift to this particular routine in his lecture and goes on several tangents during the explanation that it is hard to piece together the routine. While he explained the rope routine well enough, I'm wishing I bought the Theory 11 download.
Did anyone buy the Theory 11 Torn and Restored Transpo download? Any comments on it from anyone who did?

The download is quite good. First this routine. Not necessary if you have some of
His older books or videos where he teaches it. |
