Hello to everyone in the Magic Café! My Name is Rebecca, I'm 21 years old and from Germany.
First of all, I'm looking forward to joining this forum and its magical ongoings and I'm quite curious for I'm not very familiar with forums and their ongoings in general. So, here goes! Some five years ago, I was about as familiar with a pack of playing cards as a teabag with maritime sciences- I didn't even know what cards were in a normal deck. Then one day my little brother came home from his summer camp and presented to me in utter bliss some card tricks he had learned from somebody. For his excitement was quite contagious, we patched up some full packs with all the leftover giveaway cards we had gathered during our lifetime. The spark burned bright and short, and soon I was back to my, well, other hobbies. Until almost two years later one night in France I met a british and an irish magician doing magic on some girls in the club. When the british guy came over to do some magic on me, too, it was too much for my almost forgotten ambition which spurred me to remember whatever was left of my short magic past (some drinks in advance also helped). Anyway, I proudly pulled the glimpse-the-bottom-card-and-use-it-as-key-card to confound half the club. After this untold success I decided I had fallen in love with the cards. Currently I'm busking solely with art in Spain and been concentrating on improving my presentation and sales mainly with that. I have never busked with cards, but I'm itching to try out a routine and I know I have to do it sooner than later! That's it from me for now, I'm excited to find out what impulses I might get from you guys in the forum, also in other fields of the trade than cardistry. Cheers, Rebecca |

Welcome, and… I like your style! I'd still like to learn cards… I'm working at it, but my start was with rope tricks, and so I've focused mostly there. So far. but, I'm looking at learning some more

Welcome Rebecca,
If you are looking to branch out, Brian's suggestion of Rope Magic is a good one. Try Professor's Nightmare. It is Magical, fairly easy and can be performed with many patter lines (the story or premise of the trick that is told to the spectators) and you can make up your own. You may feel you are starting in Magic late compared to many but I started at @ 24. If you are applied this won't be a big deal in just a few years. It is always nice to welcome another Woman. -Mary Mowder |

Thank you very much for the advice, Mary! I appreciate it & might check out Professor Nightmare soon!
Recently I bought a very interesting book named "Magic and Showmanship" by Henning Nelms and in the beginning there is also a rope trick as an example as how to develop a purpose for ones presentation. Unfortunately at the moment there are 954,5 Miles that lie between me and this piece of gold for I was too concerned about its wellbeing and saving it from the rough life books sometimes have when squeezed into a backback (should've thought twice.) Good to hear I'm not on my expiry date yet (and you were neither at age 24) Cheers, Rebecca |
