My daughter will go for 6-8 months as au-pair to Australia/Canberra.
Now we are wondering WHAT Aussies would like to receive as a gift from Germany. What is not available at all or extremely overpriced in AUS; like Haribo gumbears an so on. Any Aussies here?

There are two things they have no idea they need. First, there is a German fizzy aspirin product which is incredible. It's like alcaseltzer but just aspirin, and it takes effect amazingly fast! Wish I could get the stuff in the US.
Second, there is an incredible German hand lotion... Apotheker Scheller Calendula. Both products will change your life in amazing little ways. |

A Bechstein piano perhaps.
The only Aussie here I know is Destiny but I have not seem him around for a while. Recently a couple we know returned from living in Oz and when we asked them why, the young lady said, “It was a man’s world.” They loved it there but it was a little too sporty for her and she got a bit home sick. I will ask them latter but they are English as opposed to German.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Hi CardMaker, I'm an Aussie🙂 Any German candy or chocolate would go down really well. Most imported things tend to be a bit more expensive in Australia because with our relatively small population it's a case of low volume high margin. But Aldi has successfully entered the market so we do get sweets like Haribo at a good price. But that shouldn't stop you from bringing that in. But in terms of German souvenirs or gifts, outside of candy and chocolate, I'd recommend against trying to bring other types of foodstuffs. Australia has very strict quarantine restrictions.

Hi CardMaker, having visited Australia several times, I also recommend being concerned about taking food into Australia. Generally any packaged food will be fine from a customs standpoint, but whatever your daughter takes to Australia, declare it! Even a tiny bag of sweets. Or it could be the worst introduction to a new country ever! Best, Greg.
